    Pros

The people here are fantastic & really made my experience the best it could be. They're funny, smart, and creative - and very welcoming. You can feel free to ask questions and know you'll get well-thought-out answers. Everyone seems genuinely interested in their work & helping one another. This company has a lot of events & free snacks, which keeps the atmosphere fresh and exciting. And there's a plastic skeleton that finds his way to hilarious places day-to-day.

    Cons

It can at times be difficult to organize projects when they're split between New York and Chicago, but as long as there's effective communication, it can be done.

  2. NOT a digital design agency. A production studio for Discover Card.

I have been working at MCD Partners part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the people are nice, but everyone's just looking out for themselves. Rightfully so, it's a somewhat shady place.

    Cons

If you think you're applying to work at some savvy digital agency, you are wrong. This place is only a digital production shop for Discover (and not even the cool stuff--the boring stuff that no other shop will touch). Creatives go through the motions of generating cool work, the client likes it, changes everything and what ends up going live is like 10% of the original idea. The client sucks all of the cool out of the work and the interns who are afraid to speak produce it. Management is lousy, just trying to keep the client happy, the lights on and the mice out. Yes, there are mice running around the office--which is more like a sweat shop with no imagination or creativity, kind of like the work and the leaders.

    Advice to Management

Encourage some type of culture. Speak to your employees. Don't just reward employees who are billing excessive amounts of hours, highlight team members who are doing other interesting things at/for the company as well. Maybe then the "agency" won't be such a revolving door (minus the older employees who are stuck there and will have to see out the rest of their careers there).

I worked at MCD Partners (Less than a year)

    Pros

A few fun people, relaxed and a carefree environment. A drinks fridge, some snacks and fruits.

    Cons

Nothing portfolio worthy here, as projects were uninteresting and nothing too challenging. Nothing innovative. Employees seem bored most of the time and many talked about finding work elsewhere. Discover is a major client and pretty much the bulk of the work.

    Pros

-Good location. -Good snacks. -People are nice enough; no drama. -Hours/work-life balance are decent. -Somewhat secure in that Discover has been a client forever.

    Cons

-Work is boring and unimaginative. Feel sorry for the designers. Nothing is portfolio worthy. -Management keeps you in the dark. -Freelancers are not respected or kept in the loop. Expected to be at beck and call. -Barely any culture.

    Advice to Management

Be open-minded. Mingle with everyone else. We are all people.

I have been working at MCD Partners full-time

    Pros

Very smart and talented people. The environment is pretty chill and hours are from 9-6, with no one working late very often. Fruits, snacks and drinks to keep you fueled.

    Cons

Client work remains the same. Projects lean more on maintenance than new innovations. Should look to being a full service agency and not limit itself to only front-end solutions. Partners could be more vocal with agency plans and goals.

    Advice to Management

There's always room for improvement. Don't let complacency drive others away. Look to younger companies who need nurturing and stop reaching for the higher fruit everyone else is. Win by ushering in new companies to existing markets through clever branding.

    Pros

    - Free snacks and drinks - Nice people, fun to work with - Not micromanaged - Challenging work (at times) - Decent Location

    Cons

    - Plain boring office has the look and feel of a sweat shop. White walls, all metal desks - Loud! Open floor plan with no sound breaks, walls or partitions to break up the noise. - Senior Management is not unified or involved in day to day operations

    Advice to Management

    - Get more involved with the employees and not just the few people in your clique - Get some Walls! Plants, something to break up the noise. - Bring some soul into the office so it feels like a creative agency and not a mid-town sweat shop.

I worked at MCD Partners full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Knowledge shares A general desire to help staff learn 9-6 isn't that bad for nyc agencies

    Cons

Boring clients! Their main client is Discover, and it's unbelievably boring work. I worked on maybe 1 or 2 actual new projects, with the majority of the work being someone they fired. Working on other people's code is hard and frustrating. Especially once it's been through several generations. They seem to burn bridges pretty willingly, treating employees as if they're easily replaceable. They tried to hard to make up for their lack of fun projects by doing in house stuff half heartedly, and none of it ever got released. The design people seem really burnt out. Not a smile to be shared in that dept. They pay mid - low industry standard.

    Advice to Management

Get some fun clients, movies etc. Lose money on them, but bring your team back to life.

    Cons

9am - 6pm hours and you don't always get M&M's in the nut bowl.

    Advice to Management

    keep up the good work
