I have been working at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

great place to start your career (and continue!). great wellness center..its free. everyone seems to be nice so far and there is a lot of work to jump in on. you will not be bored if you work here.

    Cons

Parking is expensive like all TMC organizations. Compensation could be updated to reflect cost of living increase in Houston.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider readjusting compensation to reflect the rising cost of living in Houston. Employees (non-physician) will have to move south or west to afford housing. this will cause long commutes and dissatisfied employees. The only other option would be to implement a shuttle service like Mayo clinic (Minneapolis to Rochester). It has wifi and is extremely discounted for employees. This would solve parking issues and decrease the demand for higher compensation.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company values, work-life balance, great core facilities, access to leaders in the field, access to numerous research institutes, access to patient samples, constant opportunities for seminars and training events, free gym, people in Houston are friendly.

    Cons

Compensation, but I was a lowly GRA then postdoc so I can't really judge this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay postdocs more! But that goes out to NIH more than MD Anderson.

    Pros

Pros include the ability for growth within the company and the benefits were great! Plus there is a gym that employees can use that is free of charge!

    Cons

I hated paying for parking, that was my biggest issue. Also certain supervisors/managers do not want to see you grow so don't expect a hand out!

    Pros

Work is challenging, but great opportunities for growth. Pretty good benefits.

    Cons

Politics and meetings. Depending on your own work-ethic, work-life balance can be challenging due to the number of initiatives the institution embarks simultaneously.
