I have been working at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits are great. There is so much room for growth. The wellness program and gym that promotes heart healthy are awesome.

    Cons

Hard to transfer and get promotions. It's who you know and not what you know. The pay grades are very low. Employees are treated poorly.

    Advice to Management

Management should value their employees more. They should show more respect and stop favoritism.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center (More than a year)

    Pros

I learned more during this internship than I ever have in during a 3 month span. Everyone, including the high ups, were very accessible and always ready to help. This really is a teaching hospital, and I couldn't speak more highly of my experience. I was never left hanging and was constantly asked how and if my experience could be improved. A great place to intern for anyone interested in research and medicine.

    Cons

There really are none I experienced as an intern.

    Advice to Management

Don't let the intern programs slide. They're invaluable to the growth of rising professionals that could one day work here!

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

The benefits are excellent and good work is rewarded,

    Cons

It is a very stressful environment and some of the managers do not understand the jobs of the employees they manage and therefore have unrealistic expectations . The annual review system is used to pursue political agendas.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and do not punish them for telling the truth. There are big trust issues between management and employees.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good medical benefits and teachers retirement

    Cons

Terrible CEO and bad organizational politics based on who you know instead of what you know. No android support because they spend money on buildings, remodeling, parking garages in the medical center. Pay raises limited due to retirement pension and also hard to transfer and move up.

    Advice to Management

Fire CEO who is corrupt and has business conflict of interests and promote people that actually do the work and are good leaders.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Okay benefits, flexible work times when in the scientific areas.

    Cons

Poorly paid for regular workers in the research areas. Nearly everyone in the Texas Medical Center goes through MDAnderson, and the reason they move on is that inevitably there is a better offer if you are a research assistant or some kind of tech. They support trickle down economics, and it just never trickles down enough.

    Advice to Management

Adjust salaries to market value rather than what was established by the state years ago.

    Pros

Opportunity for growth, collaborative environment, practices medicine at a higher level than most institutions, interested in employee and customer satisfaction.

    Cons

It's a large place and until you have been there a while can be difficult to learn where to go to access resources. They are available, you just have to take the time to learn how to navigate the large system.
