    Pros

Love the people I work with directly on a day-to-day basis and even those on a less frequent basis.

    Cons

Due to the sheer size of the place--will sometimes have to encounter and work with someone outside or above your department. You have little recourse or say if they want to make certain changes, very hierarchical. Some serious political issues between high-end staff that really only effects others indirectly. Every hospital is going to have highly trained, highly paid individuals who act like children when they dont get their way, but overall I do respect most people at this facility.

    Pros

Decent benefits. Co-workers who are truly committed to patient care. Seeing the impact you can have on patients and their families.

    Cons

Low morale. Micromanagers who are focused only on keeping up appearances. Crippling bureaucracy that makes doing your job almost impossible at times. An HR department that is so large it is completely ineffective. Lack of parking. Very little work/life balance.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center

    Pros

Great helpful and sharing environment of therapists. Team collaboration with doctors, nurses, OT, PT, speech. Autonomy and ability to provide quality treatment.

    Cons

Large company with big expectations for productivity- must keep track of productive hours for periodic reviews bc often management will have different numbers than you.

    Advice to Management

Continue to tweak productivity standards- keep in mind different settings within this hospital should have different requirements as each floor has it's own set of issues that can hold up treatment time.

    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

    - Great resources, top of the line equipment
    - Opportunities for clinical collaboration
    - Access to UT BCBS health plan

    Cons

    - Emphasis is on publications over actual clinical implementation
    - PhD students are very restricted in their opportunities. There are virtually no options for a PhD student to gain any non-academic experience (e.x., for industry jobs)
    - PhD students are considered "part-time" and are compensated for a nominal 20 hours a week, when, in reality, they regularly work 60 hours/week.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating trainees as if they are subhuman. You chose us to work here, to treat us with respect.
