    Pros

Working with household name brands and actually influencing their marketing campaigns is the #1 perk of working at MECLABS. Mix that with a fun atmosphere of super-collaborative, quirky marketers of varying ages, and you've got yourself a fun and exciting professional workplace.

If you get a chance to join on the Marketing Sherpa summits they host in Vegas, you're in for a real treat.

    Cons

The collaborative structure sometimes makes it difficult to get work done, given the tight deadlines the clients put forth. The most experienced managers know when it is appropriate to push back and negotiate longer timelines to ensure quality work. However, because of the explosive growth of the company, some managers are still figuring this out.

    Advice to Management

Encourage outside training and development. Hire external consultants to rework broken processes. Internally attempting to do this on top of already heavy workloads could prove troublesome.

Continue to develop systems to automate reporting and foster internal communication digitally.

Empower new employees to speak up by incorporating a 360 degree feedback tool with an anonymous option.

    Pros

work/life balance is good 60% of the time.
you meet some pretty awesome people.
    good networking for the future

    Cons

I say 60% because there is that week/month of hell where you work late almost every night, with a promise that won't happen again. Trust me.. it will happen again. The influx of recent college grads helps with the culture, but some are inexperienced to the point where it causes faults in communication.. especially when there are new partnerships on the line. This isn't a job for the long term.
Upper management seems to like to play the game of "wait it out". You may ask for something, but it takes over a month to get back to you.
Also, developers don't get enough credit for what is due. You just can't give them food and expect them to be happy after that. They are not pets.
    The pay is below average.

    Advice to Management

take time to train new employees, both developers and research side. There is not enough open communication and clear defined requirements.

    Pros

You can make some great long term friendships.
You get exposure to the marketing industry.
You work with a few impressive big name clients.

    Cons

Inappropriate salary offers - You top out at around 35 - 40k for a job valued much higher by competitors.
No match 401k because of the "2008 recession" that no longer exists.
No sick days, so plan on trading your vacation for your days
If you have a family or children it is unlikely you will be able to afford the massive monthly medical premium.

Incompetent management is rampant throughout the entire organization - Most were hired on in the startup days and now they're milking it on autopilot because decision making is usually driven by attempts at appeasing the half-baked whims of an absentee CEO they are all terrified of.

Also, Flint is a huge con for MECLABS because he is a gaudy charlatan who plays "doctor" around clients (he has no Ph.D.) or weird preacher teacher to impressionable young men he hand picks as acolytes to feed his need for a cult of personality.

    Advice to Management

The emperor has no clothes my friends. Go find a real job like I did where you can unlearn all the bad habits you have developed from complacency.

    Pros

Great work/life balance. Relaxed atmosphere and environment that fosters growth (at least in the beginning).

some of the employees are really cool.

    Cons

Horrible pay, not even close to competitive.
Research Analysts are the real rockstars of the company who actuallymake money. Developers are just an after though.
The CEO/Owner of the company has a serious God Complex, boasts about beating 300 men in a fight in a single day.

They are more concerned about impressing other companies and clients with the building and architecture while the employees are making salaries in the low 30,000's. Seriously, starting as a developer here, you're 2000 dollars away from qualifying for subsidized housing and food stamps.

    Advice to Management

Boost the pay, that will in turn boost the morale of your workers and reduce turnover IMMENSELY. Especially you Flint, you should feel ashamed of yourself.

    Pros

Low key environment and usually some free time to do things you want to do or actually need to be done.

    Cons

Little expectation of quality of work coming from employees. Several employees hooking up causing drama in the office and for awkward meetings. Company puts lots of effort into making the themselves look really good to outsiders (modern decor, plants, only sending best looking people to meet with partners) and does little to make the employees truly happy.

    Advice to Management

You have acknowledged MECLABS as a stepping stone, so let the employees use it as such. This is a time a build and prepare your employees for bigger things and you need them to respect MECLABS in order for the company to flourish post our time here. And stop hiring all the new employees for upper level and executive level. It makes it impossible for those have worked here for years to move up.

    Pros

MECLABS offers good experience for anyone straight out of College and Highschool who are looking to learn the basics of Marketing. MECLABS is an ideal place to work for those who are single and are looking to gain a year or two of experience. Like other reviews it's more suitable for young college grads and not for the long term.

    Cons

Unless you are a VP, MECLABS offers very low pay and they do not offer annual reviews. Their health benifits were very expensive and leadership across the board is very poor. Expect to work 10 to 20 hours of overtime per/week (no matter what role you are in) while also being on an annual salary pay structure. It very much felt like MECLABS was stealing from their employees. It is a company you can put in so many hrs and years of unpaid overtime and while being a rockstar, you will not be awarded with an increase or one for cost of living adjustment. The culture was very poor in employees not feeling valued. There was no empathy in their culture. The MECLABS Senior Research Analyst has an annual salary of 40K and not the 63K that was shared on two reviews. MECLABS Senior Leadership will admit to their emplyees that they pay them less than industry standards, because of the education they are providing, but they themselves should take the same methooligy in being paid under the standards.

    Pros

Great learning opportunities. You'll almost immediately start working and having direct impact on the marketing initiatives of Fortune 50 companies and small businesses alike. Very young, casual, intellectual atmosphere. Lots of interesting conversations to be had on the floor.

    Cons

Not a job to consider for the long term. Only so much advancement available. Leadership of company openly states that you should be focused on working for intrinsic value rather than monetary incentive. Think of this gig as a really well paid internship.

    Advice to Management

Create a structure that allows talented employees to at least conceive of making a career out of MECLABS. A belief that long term financial security reflective of educational attainment and skill set can be obtained is necessary.

Every day I get to connect with marketers around the world and learn more about their business and their customers. This job has challenged me to become a better writer and marketers.

    Cons

This job can be challenging and there is a lot of work to do for our customers. It can be overwhelming at times but it is the best place to learn.
