I have been working at MECLABS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great learning opportunities. You'll almost immediately start working and having direct impact on the marketing initiatives of Fortune 50 companies and small businesses alike. Very young, casual, intellectual atmosphere. Lots of interesting conversations to be had on the floor.

    Cons

Not a job to consider for the long term. Only so much advancement available. Leadership of company openly states that you should be focused on working for intrinsic value rather than monetary incentive. Think of this gig as a really well paid internship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a structure that allows talented employees to at least conceive of making a career out of MECLABS. A belief that long term financial security reflective of educational attainment and skill set can be obtained is necessary.

I have been working at MECLABS

    Pros

Low key environment and usually some free time to do things you want to do or actually need to be done.

    Cons

Little expectation of quality of work coming from employees. Several employees hooking up causing drama in the office and for awkward meetings. Company puts lots of effort into making the themselves look really good to outsiders (modern decor, plants, only sending best looking people to meet with partners) and does little to make the employees truly happy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have acknowledged MECLABS as a stepping stone, so let the employees use it as such. This is a time a build and prepare your employees for bigger things and you need them to respect MECLABS in order for the company to flourish post our time here. And stop hiring all the new employees for upper level and executive level. It makes it impossible for those have worked here for years to move up.

I worked at MECLABS full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

MECLABS offers good experience for anyone straight out of College and Highschool who are looking to learn the basics of Marketing. MECLABS is an ideal place to work for those who are single and are looking to gain a year or two of experience. Like other reviews it's more suitable for young college grads and not for the long term.

    Cons

Unless you are a VP, MECLABS offers very low pay and they do not offer annual reviews. Their health benifits were very expensive and leadership across the board is very poor. Expect to work 10 to 20 hours of overtime per/week (no matter what role you are in) while also being on an annual salary pay structure. It very much felt like MECLABS was stealing from their employees. It is a company you can put in so many hrs and years of unpaid overtime and while being a rockstar, you will not be awarded with an increase or one for cost of living adjustment. The culture was very poor in employees not feeling valued. There was no empathy in their culture. The MECLABS Senior Research Analyst has an annual salary of 40K and not the 63K that was shared on two reviews. MECLABS Senior Leadership will admit to their emplyees that they pay them less than industry standards, because of the education they are providing, but they themselves should take the same methooligy in being paid under the standards.

    Pros

Every day I get to connect with marketers around the world and learn more about their business and their customers. This job has challenged me to become a better writer and marketers.

    Cons

This job can be challenging and there is a lot of work to do for our customers. It can be overwhelming at times but it is the best place to learn.

I worked at MECLABS full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The company is very well-respected in the industry. More holidays off than most companies (Good Friday). Lots of Team outings and events at the Jacksonville office.

    Cons

Long work hours and too many office politics and favoritism. Making it feel if you aren't one of the favorites, you don't get the benefit of the doubt. and can be thrown under the bus while others take the credit for work you have done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be unbiased when dealing with all of your employees- don't disregard the ones you don't consider your lunch or after-work buddies. Maybe include more employees - have an open-to-all- employees invitation sometimes, so no one feels left out.

I have been working at MECLABS full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

MECLABS has been growing steadily over the past 10 years, with a big surge in the last 2-3 years. There are numerous upsides to working for a company that is at the forefront of online testing and web analytics. The culture is fun and fresh and collaboration is valued above all. The research partners are very well-known brands and it is exciting to work alongside (and influence marketing initiatives of) some common household names. MECLABS has established itself as an institution that has a powerful methodology that directly influences many Fortune 500 initiatives. The education you receive here will help turn you into a data-driven web and e-commerce expert.

    Cons

As with any organization that is growing at a faster-than-usual pace, there are a lot of growing pains associated. Documentation and knowledge (Processes, HR Docs, accounting forms, previous tests) are sometimes hard to find and must be sought out. If the company is to fit into its new clothes, it will need to establish standardized processes and automate time-consuming reporting and "busywork" where applicable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up with the leadership seminars. Make sure to establish and document any critical processes that may be left open to interpretation. Don't get caught up in fire-drills that don't directly (measurably) align with partner business goals. Be sure to focus on transparency and communication from top to bottom and vice-versa.

    I worked at MECLABS full-time

    Pros

Friendly, laid back staff. Nice facilities.

    Cons

Total lack of leadership. "Senior" managers are largely recent college grads working their first jobs and know nothing about leadership -- and lack the authority to make decisions. The only manager with any real authority is a former vice president of one of the major players in the housing collapse and he passes through the operations area once a week to shake hands and smile as though he were running for office. The majority of employees are recent grads, experienced people don't seem to last long.
The CEO has high ideals but has no idea what is actually going on inside his company. Too-rapid growth has outstripped the company's ability to adapt and to develop leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A flat management style works only when you have consensus, but when consensus becomes so important that the group is discarding the principals the company was built on, you need a leader to guide the company. The people who made MECLABS great when there 20 of them are not the same people needed to make it great when there are 200. Recognize that, hire some leaders and give them enough authority to do their jobs. If you don't, I don't think you'll survive your own growth.

I have been working at MECLABS full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

MECLABS is a place that has it's faults and "growing pains". But overall it is the most pleasant place to call home, as many of us spend long hours behind these doors and consider each other family!

Though I have only worked with MECLABS for a short time now, I am amazed and constantly reminded of how good I have it because the culture is unlike any other. After working in other corporate environments, I know that the experience and valuable opportunities I have now would be unmatched by other companies in Jacksonville.

If you want to enjoy a culture that thinks outside of the box and has a little fun, MECLABS is your place. We've got a ping pong table, daily weather reports from our in-house meteorologist, only miles away from Jacksonville Beach, weekly brainstorming sessions, employee training, guest speakers, and more.

    Cons

Irregular working hours based upon work load varying from week to week. Parking and facility space issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider a Leadership Development Program and strategies to promote with more certainty. More education for employees on work/life balance to improve their job satisfaction.
