I worked at MEDTOX full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The other departments worked closely with each other to ensure accountability in transferring product to appropriate warehouse. Supervisors were very helpful and always there to answer any questions you might have concerning work.

    Cons

Upper management needs to be more involved with all the workers. Some felt they did not care about them. The HR person was hardly ever at work and seemed to do very little when they were there.

    Advice to Management

    Get a clue

    Pros

    Lots of possibilities for overtime.

    Cons

Protocols changed significantly after Labcorp purchased the company and most of the changes had little to no consideration for their employees.

I have been working at MEDTOX full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

High turnover rate due to poor management means you'll always have a job if you don't mind working crappy hours, little to no opportunity for advancement, and poor management.

    Cons

Little to no opportunity for advancement, no support for learning new skills that would improve job performance. No forward thinking to improve workplace efficiency or any meaningful improvements in the workplace until something completely breaks or a lab result gets misreported. Even small improvements would go a long way. No continuing education beyond the bare minimum required to get the job done. The continuing education that is offered only goes towards meeting minimum industry standard requirements and has nothing to do with your actual job. Employees are treated as replaceable cogs in a machine. Employees are frequently talked down to as if they add little value to the company. Favoritism towards advancing certain people and not others. HR department is clueless. It's surprising some of the people in HR are still employed. It seems to be the only department with no oversight and no one breathing down your neck to get work done. Crappy hours. All shifts aside from those in HR and a few in management require you to work weekends. This can be draining on your social life. They used to offer a weekend differential, but that no longer exists because they rolled weekend workers pay into their base, so that now you have wild variations in salary for people performing the same job. People just coming into the company don't get paid near what someone who used to work both weekend days gets paid regardless if they are still working both weekend days.

    Advice to Management

Show some respect and appreciation for your most valuable asset; the people working for you.

I have been working at MEDTOX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to get a job because of turnover

    Cons

Things constantly change and not everyone is notified of them until it's too late. Some employees are given more power without a title, no opportunity for advancement within department, poor communication between management and employees, no learning opportunities are really given (or only given to one or two people). Working every Saturday. Even though our schedule changed to 40 hours a week, we still have to stay until the work is done. So, you may not put in 8 hours or you may put in 10 or 12, you never know. Not allowed to talk to your coworkers. Despite sitting in a breezy, freezing cold hallway where people frequently walk by and have their own conversations and disrupt work, you're not even allowed to ask a question. You're not even allowed to have your cell phone on your desk. The only phone available to use is the one at the managers desk which makes you feel like an idiot while you're standing at the desk discussing a personal emergency with someone on the phone.

    Advice to Management

Communication is key. The communication here is so poor that half the time, you don't even know what's really going on. Standards that you claim have been in place for years haven't been and what one person is told varies from day to day depending on what mood your supervisor is in. There are no opportunities for learning because the opportunities are only offered to one or two people. There are definitely favorites in the department and they get special treatment. ie: days off when the day is already marked full, ability to come in late and/or leave early whenever they feel like it, flexible working hours, private personnel information that should only be shared between management and hr.

I have been working at MEDTOX full-time

    Pros

Provides good benefits Co-workers are all hard working and attribute to a pleasant work environment

    Cons

Inconsistencies with communication between management and HR Upward or lateral movement is limited based on what is available at time of hire and not dependent on work ethic or commitment to the company Little understanding or work/home life balance

    Advice to Management

Reward employees who show a strong work ethic and desire to grow and excel

    Pros

    Cons

High turn over. Your just a number. Not much room for growth

    Advice to Management

    Offer better composition.

    Pros

    Nice cafeteria, comfortable work chairs

    Cons

Extremely poor training in the call center. Immature and young supervisors. You cannot talk or speak to your co-workers at all. The worst micro-managed environment I have ever worked in. It is okay for the supervisors to talk, laugh and waste time and be disruptive, but yet the employees in their cubicles cannot even say "hi" to their co-workers.

    Advice to Management

You need to re-organize your supervisor staff as that is why you have such a high turnover

  11. Just fine for hourly shift work

    Former Employee - Laboratory Technologist
    Former Employee - Laboratory Technologist

    Pros

You know exact what you need to do after you get trained in. The shifts go by very slowly and nothing every changes so it is quite boring after a few shifts. It is a great job if you never want to have to work past your expected shift. There are a so many opportunities for overtime pay.

    Cons

You tend to get bored pretty quickly but if you have the mental stamina to hanhandle it, you'll be fine.

    Advice to Management

Stick to the training schedule that HR sends out in their offer letters. I had shifts change on me last minute which was irritating.
