Pros
It's really nice being able to work at one of the oldest hotel casinos on the Las Vegas strip. There is definitely a sense of pride and loyalty there. The other staff are very friendly, and usually just leave you to your job. If you're lucky to be a cashier that has a 2nd person with you, it makes the time go by much faster. And if you like this, you do get to meet all kind of people from all walks of life.
Cons
Avoid EDR between 1-2pm. That's when all the housekeepers are on lunch, and it's insane in there. By the time you get your food, you'll only have 5mins to eat, and you want to enjoy the time you get to sit and be in AC (if you're working outdoors).
I worked as a retail sales (aka cashier) at the pool. I was working at $10/hr, while there were employees that worked the ticketing office INSIDE at $14/hr. Keep in mind, the peak of summer (which is about 3-4 months long in Vegas), is 110-120F.... $10/hr does not seem balance out that kind of suffering. Not to mention, at the pool, you only have a 2nd person with you for maybe 2-3 hours in your 8 hour day. The rest of it you're by yourself. Oh, and you're not allowed to sit... there isn't even a chair out there for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Put a chair at the pool store, and stop trying to micromanage. Sometimes, things work fine without needing to "fine tune" it all the time. And upselling? Forget it. People that visit the pool store have a very limited amount of cash they bring with them, and a very set goal for what they want.
Pros
- The corporate office is a pretty laid back place to work. Doesn't feel like the typical corporate job.
- The health benefits are pretty good, especially for a single policy.
- People are typically friendly and fun to be around.
- Hours are pretty normal.
Cons
- Wage is below the average for Las Vegas
- Not much opportunity for advancement in my particular position.
- Currently there is no annual raises.
- Have to wait too long for a vacation.
Advice to Senior Management
The people making decisions need to take some advice from the more technical employees who hold a lower position. It doesn't hurt to use the employees around you as a springboard for better results.
Pros
There is a fair amount of job security and the people that you work with are fairly nice. It is an alright place to work.
Cons
Advancing within the company is super difficult and their website for looking at different career opportunities is a mess. You are only allowed to apply for one position at a time as well and can only apply for the position once, if you apply and then withdraw, you can't reapply.
Advice to Senior Management
Ask the employees what would be the best way to accomplish a goal, the opinion from someone on the outside that has zero day-to-day experience can often lead to a mess.
Pros
Great place to work, and the people are friendly to work with. Company is well known and you can meet lots of people to help further your career or other opportunities outside the company.
Cons
Company is very fast paced so you have to work hard and don't take critism or people yelling at you harshly.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to higher more employees mostly due to the economy. Also, take what your employees suggest and try to accommodate to their needs.
