New Kids on the Block trying to play with the big boys

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe firm provides a great opportunity for quick growth at the associate level. Cutting edge technology and audit methodology.

ConsHistorically, the alternative practice structure has not worked in public accounting. CBIZ MHM is currently the only public accounting firm practicing under the alternative practice structure. This will always be a concern for ambitious professionals looking to have a financially rewarding career in public accounting. The lack of financial incentive (no partner/equity track) may possibly deter top talent from joining or staying with the firm. This will really hinder the firms ability to reach its ultimate goal of joining the ranks of the other National firms. To date, the growth of CBIZ MHM has been accomplished through acquisitions of smaller CPA firms throughout the country. The unanswered questions still remains if they have the ability to grow organically!

Advice to Senior ManagementIf the firm can't offer their top performers potential partner/equity stake then compensation at each level needs to far exceed that of their competitors in order to attract and retain talent. Ask yourself this - Why would a highly driven professional want to work in a high stress and demanding field for a firm that lacks the potential of financial success when they can go across the street where its offered?
