I have been working at MNP LLP full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A highly respectful work environment in the headquarters. Senior management is easily approachable and are always willing to listen to employee concerns. The culture is excellent and promotes a healthy work-life balance. Opportunities for professional development are always available, especially if you're pursuing a business degree or a designation in accounting or consulting.

    Cons

The salaries are lower than industry average but at par with the big 4 in Canada.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Continue to maintain the current culture, do not let growth and expansion change the fundamentals of the company
    - Develop a comprehensive training policy for new employees
    - Allow HQ employees to shadow RMPs in order to facilitate a better understanding of the business

    Cons

About everything that people beeing saying is true. Lack of training. Rather hire from outside then promote internally. They stick within they own people even they have less qualification then you. They will give you all bunch of excuses why they cannot promote you or give a raise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing will change. Its the company's culture

    Truth was dissapointing

I have been working at MNP LLP full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As an articling student it was a great place to gain valuable work experience. You were often made to feel valuable and an important part of the team. From what I understand of downtown Edmonton, salary levels were basically on par with all the other major accounting firms. Benefits were also good and depending on what unit you were in, some work life balance was obtainable. In public accounting you should never really expect 12 months of complete work life balance so can't judge them there.

    Cons

Upon completion of your designation you quickly realize how bad it got. Partners hand picked their favorite but continued to dangle the carrot above the non chosen ones in the hopes to keep them around. Witnessed on many occasions, partners and other senior manager staff outright degrading lower level staff with their comments. Sadly I know many MNP employees outside of the Edmonton region who do not share the same experience. It appears this national firm isn't very consistent across the board. Not surprised after I left that MNP I've come to hear that it has the reputation in Edmonton as being the training office for all the other firms in the city.

Overall great place to article (very supportive of their students) but once you have your letters you should know whether you are hand picked or not for advancement. If you don't know that means you are not and should probably save yourself some future stress and move on to better pay and better work life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you start at MNP you get the perception that quality of work comes first but it doesn't take long to realize that the only thing managers care about in that firm is increasing their bonus or impressing partners. And in most cases they will do that by tossing whomever they can under the bus. Their is of course exceptions to this but sadly they are very much the minority.

    Pros

There are some great people that work here.

    Cons

The corporate structure is a mess of egos and infighting. Every day is a political minefield. Command and control information structures are prevalent and politics that prevent proposal from getting out for weeks due to endless rework.

I worked at MNP LLP full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The mutual respect among coworkers of a variety of experience levels allows for a feeling of inclusion. Positive work environment, flexible hours.

    Cons

Starting wages do not reflect the responsibilities, expectations or pressures placed on entry level articling students. Funneled into niches you may not be interested in at an early stage of your career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase salaries, have realistic time budgets on files, provide positive feedback to employees, don't let the "problems run down hill"
