Current employee. Overall, just a good/great company to work for. Not overly formal or bureaucratic.

I have been working at MOL AMERICA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really good benefits including tuition reimbursement & pension. Great people. Ability to change things without a lot of "red tape". Good support system and management trainee program. Good work is usually recognized.

    Cons

N/A - So far, so good. The world economy has been more challenging for the shipping industry in recent years than in the past. MOL's liner shipping business needs to navigate the shifts well, proactively, in order to continue to thrive.

    Advice to Management

Continue trying to improve the company's competitive/financial performance.

College grads - this should be used as a last resort until you can find a position that offers advancement.

I worked at MOL AMERICA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some good managers. Excellent 401K plan - matching plus pension. Clean office with plenty of resources. No mandatory weekend work. You get a base salary which dictates your hourly wage, and if you work 37.5 hours per week you receive your base salary. Up 40 hours per week you receive your "straight pay" hourly wage in addition to base salary, and everything over 40 is time and a half. Lots of pot lucks, free lunches, random mornings with free bagels/donuts. There's a cafe next door which is nice for days when you forget a lunch or can't get out of the office for too long. Ability to work from home with recent addition of laptops for all of customer service. Company loses a lot of money, but still issues discretionary bonuses. This is a great job to learn people skills, intense organization, and quick and effective decision making. You will get to talk to different people from different countries on a daily basis.

    Cons

The company loses millions of dollars per year, there's a lot of pressure to limit costs even though its an industry where liability often ends up being with the steamship line. Work load is quite heavy, with manager approval you can skip your lunch (and be compensated), come in early, stay late. It's incredibly stressful since several decision makers are overseas - you'll have to wait a day for an answer, and each day that the answer is not resolved results in more money. Customers are extremely demanding, especially when working with perishable cargo. You need to have think skin or will get some quickly; expect to get some abrasive calls and emails. CCA is a call center and you have to answer by the second ring, you cannot miss a call and you cannot be on the other line with one customer if there are "calls in the queue" about to be dropped (this one still baffles me) - these are KPI's that are distributed to all stakeholders. Some management is knowledgable and friendly, but overall people in management are just as overworked, stressed and at their limit as the coordinators. There's not a lot of support, sometimes no one knows the answer and you are left to deal with berating customers while management acts like they are resolving it. Some people in the office are so rude and entitled they will not even look at you, it's not the best work environment to foster a team spirit. Expect to send and receive around 400 emails per day, and action each one of them. There's a language barrier which can easily cause miscommunications - get EVERYTHING in writing and have a seamless organization system for your emails; this is not the place you can get caught with your pants down, or MOL ends up paying for avoidable mistakes. You will talk with different people from different countries on a daily basis, this is negative only because you need to be aware of how different cultures act in business - this won't be a negative aspect for long, but could be if you cannot adapt.

    Advice to Management

Get the negative, toxic managers out of office. You know who they are, and they can be replaced with smarter and more personable associates. Have a plan for recent graduates - it is so misleading to say this position prefers a degree, but you know that there is almost no way to move up in this company. Stop hiring smart people with great work ethic just to burn them out so they eventually leave, have a plan to keep intelligent personnel for the long term! Distribute work load evenly. This company needs to trim the fat, get rid of repeat offenders of poor judgement. You need robots for these positions if it continues to run the way it is.

    Pros

not much except you get a paycheck every week and get good medical plan

    Cons

Clueless management, losing money hand over fist. They have no idea how to fix it so they are throwing darts on the board to see what works by establishing new departments to fix the mess.

    Advice to Management

I got nothing good to say here, never seen a company lose so much money.

I have been working at MOL AMERICA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For me, there's a lot of flexibility. Managements tell me what needs to be done and it gets done. There's no deadline for projects. My current manager is understanding, good benefits, and decent pay.

    Cons

lack of training, disorganized, and poor management decisions (in general), prefers to make mistakes and then fix them (does not believe in prevention).

    Advice to Management

prevention is always better than resolution. stop being political and rub each others back, work might get done more quickly this way.
