I have been working at MOL full-time

    Pros

Doing a god job can ensure you a career opportunity , changing company which looks for young talents

    Cons

Work life balance is not so good, there is a culture of tenure, and employees find that they are "creating" additional value because of it; but in general they are just filling up the time; but not so effectively because its a standard thing which senior management expects you to do (swallow the dust for the company and you will be promoted "one day") :)

A multinational company offering well rounded IT experience and strategically thinking management for employees

I worked at MOL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company though based in Hungary nurtures a multinational IT culture emphasizing English language boosting ITIL best practices, strong SAP competence center and well rounded project management. It offers a good balance between responsibilities and self management in the IT department, and employees constantly have opportunities to think outside their own mostly standardizes processes and enhance them taking part in new projects to deliver new or improved services to business users of MOL group located in multiple countries. Most of the pressure of IT employees for innovation comes from understaffed teams found in most companies with similar size since 2009. Operational managers are mostly aware of this and try to find a way to balance out standardizing activities and allowing employees to be innovative and find better solutions. This is working well for those who are eager to improve processes. Most of the employees are thus friendly and open minded towards each other and support initiatives from their ranks and often even conduct after work activities together.

    Cons

The workload and constant pressure on new changes require employees to always learn new things, adapt and take risks which is not for everyone. Some fall through the initial screening and training process but some get stuck in the rather static structure the company has due to its share size. Thus some teams have a rather static approach to changes which is working rather well on the ERP and basic IT services areas but causes risks for BI where changes need to be embraced both in the processes of the teams responsible and also the mentality of its members. This risk is further increased by a knowledge management concept and system which would benefit from much improvement. These combined can lead to newly acquired resources to abandon the company when met with high expectations but static minded colleagues and lacking or hardly accessible knowledge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current values need to be strengthened and communicated to employees, such as high IT service quality standards, usage of English language across all entities, usage of ITIL standards, advanced and well executed IT project management concept and well defined BI strategy. Other areas such as knowledge management require improvement to support the above. Both management and their teams need to accept that changes form a daily requirement for IT, and have to adapt new practices and technology as already partially done by some managers. This is even more so since the company is constantly facing a large number and numerous large scale changes. MOL has access to resources both monetary and personal which few of the large companies in Europe have and needs to keep in pace with modern technology to improve efficiency via its ERP systems and management decision quality via its BI area.

I worked at MOL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I had really good and various projects here and my bosses were talented and suppertive as well. Not bad work/life balance either.

    Cons

The bureaucracy and the decision-making in MOL is quite slow, especially HR department. The compensation is fair but not the best. The IT background is good but the support is can be improved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should make decision-making easier and faster. More frequent feedback is required within each department.
