    Pros

    Start out at high pay...
    30% discount on food
The day goes by fast because customers are always coming in

    Cons

    Not enough hours..
You cant take tips from customers (well at least without them knowing)
    Managers don't listen
Hard to move up in the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the employees who are working hard not the ones who are hardly working and just kissing you azz!

I have been working at MOMS Organic Market part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Generous discount. Great co-workers. Emphasis on customer satisfaction. Positive upbeat environment for the most part.

    Cons

Lack of structure, training, and follow through with environmental initiatives at store level. No academic reimbursement programs or environmental courses offered to employees. The value of "candor" is abused by upper management. Low pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cultivate your employees and provide structured training programs. Constant shifts in management bring down morale. MOM's is also looking more and more like a big box store. Please get the homegrown feel back!

Generally great learning experience available and fun, upbeat place to work but can be too inconstant with core values.

I have been working at MOMS Organic Market part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can learn a lot if you want.
    Upbeat atmosphere
    Good discounts for employees
    Their values are inspiring

    Cons

The have core values they stand by but will be flex when they get a complaint from a customer. They say they will back you when they feel a customer is unreasonable but that may not hold to be true.
A career path in the company is very unclear.
Management is touch and go. You hope you get along with them to do well within the store.

I have been working at MOMS Organic Market part-time for more than a year

    Pros

30 percent discount, some cool co workers.

    Cons

Horrible management, racism, disrespectful, unprofessional, promote stupidly, no time management, lie about company Candor

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote honest and good people, not naive and lazy kids that just suck up and act as if they are better than everyone, and have control on your management and put them in their place.

A wonderful company with a strong connection to the environment; as meaningful as it gets in the retail industry.

I have been working at MOMS Organic Market part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good starting hourly pay (also comparable to Trader Joe's)
    Pro-environmental restoration practices
    Interesting customers
Great benefits from the store discounts to health insurance (after 1 year)
    High opportunities for personal growth

    Cons

    Disorganized due to high work-load
Management 'spies' on their employees using the surveillance cameras
"Everyone is a bagger" policy stifles productivity

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Be careful not to neglect your employees as you grow.
-I understand your desire to expand, but do not do so at a rate that creates huge overhead in the central office. Large central offices have a tendency to stifle creativity and innovation in the stores.
-Stop using the surveillance cameras to discipline employees. Take the time to walk around the stores and keep an eye on hourly employees.
-Some employees need structure in their jobs, staying away from micro-managing is great, but some oversight is needed!

Easy hours, unpredictable management, playing favorites

I worked at MOMS Organic Market

    Pros

    - Easy hours, could easily change schedule based on outside observations
    - No uniform
    - Employees could socialize outside of work

    Cons

    - Management rotated too often and was shoddy. Common knowledge that some firings came about because management simply "didn't like" the offending employee.
    - Due to the above, really high turnover rate. Often when asked afterwards, the former employees said it was due to management.
    - Questionably racially motivated policies regarding the music and front-end staff. At multiple locations, dealt with and witnessed the dress code not being enforced fairly amongst all women due to body type/shape
    - Very clearly did not hire elderly or mentally disabled

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some management training. Learn how to better educate them on how to run a business. Also, diversify the corporate side of the company.

I worked at MOMS Organic Market for more than a year

    Pros

-You will learn a lot about the environment, organic food, clean eating, nutrition, etc.
-Most employees are really nice and down to earth
    -Very casual work environment

    Cons

-Lack of career growth and opportunities
-High Turnover of employees (people come and go- not necessarily company's fault, just need to be able to weed out those who only want to be there for a very short period of time)
-At times management seems very disorganized

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Look for people that have a hard work ethic and plan on lasting there for at least a month or so, because it is really discouraging when employees see people come & go within such a short period of time.
    - Stop putting so much pressure on employees to carry bags to the car. We understand the policies behind it but realize there are many customers who do not feel comfortable having people carry their bags and want to do it themselves.

I have been working at MOMS Organic Market full-time

    Pros

They provide a work environment that is relaxed yet productive at the same time. MOM's is definitly a company that truly means what they say in regards to their social and environmental causes. Another thing that I truly admire is that they will not sacrifice their morals for profits.

    Cons

At times can seem like it is run in an unorganized fashion with constant changes going on in management, however they are a successful growing company so it seems to be working.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep doing what your doing!

Mom's has a great mission, but improving morale is just as essential as having an environmental/social conscience.

I worked at MOMS Organic Market part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The discount and benefits are very generous. The dress code is very permissive. The CEO and the company genuinely seem to care about the environment and fair trade issues.

    Cons

Read the handbook very carefully. If even one of the managers has a problem with you, they will find an excuse to fire you (it may not even be in the handbook). There is absolutely no sense of job security. There is no transparency in upper management and little communication. HR is severely understaffed and as a result, you will not get a response about your concerns. The CEO has his email address listed on the shopping bags so that customers can reach him directly, but as an employee you will never have that kind of access or response to concerns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be more consistency in procedures and communication between employees and management. HR needs to be more involved in the day-to-day operations of the individual stores.
