Current Employee – been working at MSC Industrial Direct full-time for more than a year
Pros – the pros for this company is career opportunities, culture, resources and benefits. With my experience at msc i have became a confident sales rep and learning news ways to provide great customer service.
Cons – the cons is the pay for my position and all the responsiblities for the amount of pay. Plus training has been on the low end of the postion. Also poor hiring in some fields in the company.
Advice to Senior Management – To provide more training with each position.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at MSC Industrial Direct
Pros – good pay, good training, everyone overall respectful, goals set and followed up, new hires are all educated
Cons – management acting like everything is ok during a mass merger when it is not; a no rehire policy; confusing mixed messages when it comes to parent company and other; double standards between work locations; most management is there due to time put in-not qualifications and/or education. MSC needs to also focus on MEtalworking products MORE and less on TOILET PAPER and MRO. Let Grainger sell that crap! Oh, and MAKE ONE CATALOG!
Advice to Senior Management – take some of you OWN advice, learn more about the industry-you cant manage or supervise others without knowing anything about the industry or products. MAKE ONE CATALOG AND EVERYTHING UNIFORM BETWEEN BOTH SIDES OF THE COMPANY!
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at MSC Industrial Direct
Pros – MSC has the buying power that goes along with being a large company. They have access to most major brands, with product lines ranging from metal working solutions, power tools, hand tools, and safety products to fasteners, filters, and motors. Potential customers to call on range from state accounts to basic industrial accounts to hospitals and clinics. There are various types of support personnel that are available to help optimize your sales time.
Cons – MSC has many rules to live by, sometimes hampering flexibility. Meetings and conference calls detract from selling time. Also, there are competitors that pay quite a bit more.
Advice to Senior Management – Lighten up on the meetings --- or shorten them.
