I worked at MSC Software as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Overall very good experience. I was able to learn a lot. Very good management. I was an intern but they gave me real world responsibilities. I was always encouraged to do more and to try more. Open minded company.

    Cons

People don't interact very much. Priorities not very clear. Interns were not very well integrated. I don't have any other cons. It was a very good internship.

I worked at MSC Software full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to work on a variety of finite element analysis tools. Middle managers were usually very good. Helpful but not overbearing. Salary and benefits are good. Paid week off between Christmas and New Years was nice. All time off comes from one pot. Bad if you get sick a lot. Great if you don't. Coworkers are great. Lots of smart people willing to help.

    Cons

Management does not strongly promote personal growth. I worked for them for 20 years. I made a lot of contributions and my reviews were always excellent until the last year or 2. I was assigned to a project using a technology that I had no experience with. I floundered a lot and did not produce enough. I knew it and often commented on it, but no one suggested corrective action. Then I was laid off. They gave me 60 days notice and 11 weeks severance, but I am still looking. I feel there should have been more training offered to keep skills current. Instead they are hiring offshore or more recent grads at lower rates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push skills training and make it easily obtainable.

    A good place to work

Former Employee - Software Engineer Intern in Santa Ana, CA

I worked at MSC Software as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Very open working environment. And the entire company is working just as one team. Collegues are very friendly and open to help each other. There is one conference to show demo of the work progress every two week. This help colleagues communicate with each other very well an learn about the entire product of the company.

    Cons

work loads a little bit demanding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Meetings or conferences are a little bit often

I worked at MSC Software full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Skilled and dedicated employees. Interesting work with a wide variety of customers and customer problems.

    Cons

Complete disconnect between the relentless focus on maximizing profit by the private equity owners and the desire of employees to build careers with a company that is respected by its customers. Once world class products have lagged behind to the point that they are almost a joke. Customer defection continues despite "Happy Ears" of executive management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking that you are the smartest guys in the room.

I worked at MSC Software as an intern

    Pros

The people are friendly and are helpful to share tasks among each other. General attitude is optimistic and positive. Great benefits, especially if you have a family or are outgoing.

    Cons

The workload can be quite hectic at times, especially if the work is done by another branch of the company and returns to be redone. Essentially, the amount of work going around should be shared among more people.
Also, the type of work, depending on your department, can be very repetitive and leave you wondering about work elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to recommendations of lower management as they are doing what they can with what they have. They need additional support and not budget cuts.

    Pros

Opportunities for advancement...(Quickly if your in the right place at the right time)

    Technology driven

Free software...Great for the engineering individual

Coworkers are friendly and eager to help you succeed with your goals and tasks

    Location

    Cons

Desk Job...( at least there are good views and plenty of windows)

Seems like they never using the ventilation system because it is always stuffy and warm in the office... makes me uncomfortable

Oversight in project management leads to lots of delayed releases for software and upgraded features

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put together a better benefit package, continue to push the innovation envelope, and bring the older software out of the stone age!
