I worked at MTD Products full-time

    Pros

Goal oriented organization. Focused on growth and evolving as a company. Working on team structure. Lots of great people in the company who are supportive. Opportunities for growth if you network well.

    Cons

Don't always provide good training for team members. Especially new hires. Not always consistent with communication or information that could be helpful for the job or goals. Matrix reporting structure was not effective.

    Advice to Management

Culture is not as solid as it once was. Used to love working there. Lost that love over the last few years I was there.

I worked at MTD Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great co-workers, friendly environment, freedom to explore avenues and learn various aspects of work.

    Cons

The company does not recognize talent and are stagnant from a technical standpoint. Very little folks are competitive in nature and are capable of bringing value to table. Employees not appreciated for their skills and talent since the management is UNABLE to recognize the meaning of those skills. The company looks settled where they are in the market and don't look motivated for "actual" development (including acquisitions made recently). Chances of retaining bright employees are slim with the nature and attitude of management and coworkers.

    Advice to Management

Recognize talent, compensate the good ones based on ACTUAL MERIT. Weed out people and let them go if they are not competitive enough. You are not running a charity, it is bringing the company down one step at a time. There is a glaring difference between people can and are actually working and people who are flying under the radar (this includes managers) and it needs to set right.

I have been working at MTD Products full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

For a large company, it has a much smaller feel. Does a decent job with product development. Very solid at working with retail partners. Customer focused.

    Cons

Lots of family members in the business. Some not so talented. Can be very political and lots of hidden agendas. Pay is generally lower than industry standards, benefits which used to be great are declining.

    Advice to Management

Engineering lacks talent and resources. Long term product planning is weak. Head hunters are calling and starting to pick off talent.

I worked at MTD Products full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Somewhat stable job. Some of the people are nice. Nothing has changed in the 10 years I worked there.

    Cons

The things that don't change that need to is there values they don't follow. They only promote buddy's from within. While people in college or that have experience waste away. Management micromanages and looks down on you. H.r is completely for the company. Safety issues rarely get looked at. My main con is don't say one thing and do the other.

    Advice to Management

Actully walk out on the floor and do the jobs. Learn what your employees are expected to learn with little to no training.

    Pros

-Good pay respective to duties/requirements for position -Lovely Corporate Campus -Co-workers whom have been there a long while are wonderful compatriots -Off-season is a breeze and the call volume is too low/perfect -Extra-curricular activities abound (i.e. Toastmasters, etc) -Great benefits package -solid attempts at moral boosting activities (employee reference awards)

    Cons

-company favors nepotism for advancement -Customer Service building does not follow corporate HR policy -slights received from failed implementation of HR policies can be held against one for advancement -low-level management is severely under-trained and left to dry by upper management, leaving the employees in the dark with misinformation being rampant in regards to almost every topic, for long periods of time -cloying religious focus

    Advice to Management

Do not give supervisor's the bare-minimum training and leave them to guide a group of agents when it is clear to everyone involved that they do not have proper support to do their job, which is to help us on the phones do our jobs.

    Pros

Helpful training, Nice café, Some nice hired in employees.

    Cons

supervisors are never around, Not allowed to talk to people there, Better be fast or they will let you go. unorganized and most the employees here are very unprofessional. They say they help people when they really don't. I was told I was doing good and working well then after working one day I got told I'm not to return, How does a company who is so highly thought of do this to people who come in when needed and work really hard.

    Advice to Management

Get better Supervisors and Don't hire your seasonal people for a few months then at the drop of a dime let them go. Also tell the supervisors to stop telling people their doing good if your letting them go.

I have been working at MTD Products (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A good place to get a decent paycheck without doing much of anything...if you know the right people.

    Cons

Too many to share. Company says they care about their people and they do...some of the people. until you've been there 15+ years, you don't matter.

I worked at MTD Products full-time

    Pros

Lots of great people, flexible with work schedule and having to leave for appointments. The extra paid holidays that they give are great and account for almost an extra week of vacation time over the year. Fantastic benefits!!!

    Cons

Most people there are significantly underpaid. Certain employees continue to get promotions just because they are in good with the family.

    Advice to Management

Start offering competitive pay and people will be willing to stay longer
