Pros
Lots of opportunities to take on projects that are beyond the realm of your actual position, as well as networking opportunities galore.
Cons
Too many deadweights who just "get by" while others put in way too much work to make up for it. Salary lowballing is the norm, promotions and raises are usually put off or explained away until the deserving person leaves the company.
Advice to Senior Management
The turnover rate is so high that there are constantly new people who need to be trained, and then those people end up having to train the next bunch, etc. There's definitely something lacking when the most knowledgeable and reliable employees have either left or are in the midst of leaving. Most are looking for opportunities elsewhere.
Pros
- Great company name, looks amazing on resume
- Very interesting workplace
- Laid back management
- Great coworkers and upper level management is laid back
Cons
- Very little advancement
- Treat entry level employees and interns like garbage
- Promised a lot, not too much room for moving up ladder
- If you're older than 30, you're out the door
Pros
MTVN is filled with creative and talented people. It is a great place to learn and grow given the opportunity.
Cons
Managing a large team can be hard but giving some more insight to the bigger picture of the company is lacking. This could help in the day to day operations.
Advice to Senior Management
Great place to learn but the hours are very intense. Employees can get burned out.
Pros
Amazing atmosphere. You work with friends, no dress code, and MTV overall has a lot to offer as far as perks go. Great hours, Great content, Great colleagues. The Lodge cafeteria at 1515 is also a major pro. Flexible schedules.
Cons
Salary. It's the downfall of the company. Employees are not rewarded for loyalty or hardwork. There is a lot of HR rhetoric that gets thrown around when one tries to stand up for themselves or ask for raises. I have seen a lot of good people get laid off, pushed out and denied requests for political reasons but, Viacom is a major corporation and with that comes a lot of office politics. The atmospher has shifted to a much more corporate environment over the last few years, which has affected company-wide morale.
Advice to Senior Management
Never use other employees to state your case why I shouldn't get what I ask for... it's the worst when you feel you are in a socialistic environment and hard work doesn't pay off.. literally.
Pros
Co-workers - a great group of creative people most of the time
Pay - better than the average
Benefits - way better than the average
Perks like great parties, musical events and shows
Cons
Egos can be huge thus annoying. Any creative group in entertainment has a tendancy toward tons of drama. Lots of nepotism.
Advice to Senior Management
It really isn't rocket science. Get over yourself , do the right thing for the company and stop thinking of only your career.
Pros
good hours, nice people, summer fridays. IT has been a really great experience and I have learned a lot from everyone here
Cons
there arent really any downsides. The experience has been great and I really recommend working here if you are looking.
Advice to Senior Management
I do not have any advice for management. overall great support system and great people to work with here definitely.
Pros
Nurturing environment, casual atmosphere, extremely supportive supervisors. Offers an opportunity to work for one of the most influential media organizations on the planet and see the inner workings of cable networks.
Cons
Occasionally menial and repetitive work, Times Square headquarters can get overwhelming. Sometimes employees seem too relaxed, would like to see a stronger work ethic among supervisors and management.
Pros
When there are things for the interns to do, it's great. You'll get to sit in on tapings and help coordinate shoots.
Cons
We worked during a very slow season. Our supervisors had nothing to do, we in turn had nothing to do.
Advice to Senior Management
perhaps, the office atmosphere could be a bit more intern friendly.
Pros
Friendly employees and great benefits
Cons
Salary not great and limited room for career advancement
Pros
MTV Networks is a fun place to work for the young professionals starting out in the workforce
Cons
It is very hard to move up or even around in the company. HR tends to lean towards outside recruitment rather than internal. Had an experience where i'd been given senior work with a junior title and no plan for advancement.
