    Pros

MTV networks is a great place to work, with lots of perks from access to events and celebrities to free food, drinks at impromptu meetings and showcase sin the office to beer and burger bash once a year in the company parking lot. It's a fun place with great senior staff who are willing to talk and collaborate and hear ideas. The company atmosphere is lighthearted and laid back. Love it!

    Cons

The cons are low pay. Because this is the world of entertainment and also because of all the perks, access and fun listed above, the pay is typically lower than say the same position within a different industry. However there are yearly raises and bonuses which tend to make up for the lack in salary.

    Advice to Management

My main advise would be to continue to see the potential in lower level staff and allow for them to feel hear and appreciated. Also I'd say to allow for more room for growth within the departments and company as a whole.

    Pros

Some very talented people work here, skews young obviously. A good starter job, immersive environment for quickly building for massive audience. Depends on the department, you can really have a great experience or a bad one.

    Cons

Viacom is a very political company, and all digital work was to help the TV channels, so that limits the kind of work they do. Not a startup, an established media company, protecting its ad revenue and assets.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent to employees about strategic positioning.

    Pros

Promote from within, creative work environment, in the heart of media, very cutting edge. Expect to work long days.

    Cons

Can be very competitive, very youth oriented and people in their 40's can start to feel irrelevant. A lot of mergers and acquisitions which caused many rounds of layoffs.

    Advice to Management

    Great management.

    Pros

Viacom provides interns with hands on experience. During my time there I was able to learn and grow within the Communications department. They also provide interns with multiple forums in which one can learn about the different areas within each network.

    Cons

Long hours! A typical work day is 9-6 depending what time you get in. The more hours you put in, the more experience you'll get.

    Pros

Really good benefits package, bonuses are good during good years, camaraderie among employees is high.

    Cons

Expect to be laid off at some point, no loyalty to employees - you'll get replaced by someone younger/cheaper eventually.

    Advice to Management

Show that you care about your employees, don't just talk about it.

    Pros

Fantastic work environment with great benefits for the employee

    Cons

Action items tend to take forever before the ball is rolling. Employees, depending on their superior are often overlooked for advancement and are not taken as serious as one would want with regards to advancement. I have seen people leave, take a higher position elsewhere then return in a few years.

    Advice to Management

Lend employees your ear and listen to them when they ask for your help. Ideas often are shared and are overlooked because of the employees position in the hierarchy only to be shared by someone else (VP status or above) several months too late. Someone else has gotten there and done "that" by then.

    Pros

A relaxed, casual environment. The brand still carries recognition and cache.

    Cons

The company is aching to be the cool/hip MTV of the 80's/90's but is struggling with an identity crisis. Teaching managers how to lead PEOPLE instead of just assign tasks is not a priority - feelings/emotional value are not considered here.
