    Pros

MacDermid Printing has an Entrepreneurial culture.

    Cons

Often far too much to do. Senior management are unpredictable, and create confrontation. Sales orientated approach leaves every other function to pick up the pieces. Pay increases and benefits not the greatest.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people, don't overstretch them, and leave them stressed out. Don't nitpick small details just to show how smart you are.

    Pros

Ability to create your job around the things you like/are good at. Ability to take the reins very quickly in your career. Great experience at a national company in a niche market place. Great stepping stone to get to something bigger and better.

    Cons

No clear lines between you and upper management. No structure to year end reviews. They like to hold back on raises and job promotions as long as possible. Often overwork employees, generally when someone is fired or chooses to leave, no one is brought on to take their place. A lot of the work just gets passed around to others with no recognition for job level/task changes. All in all, the only real cons come down to how they structure payment, the way they inform employees of their level within the company, and overall how much they undervalue and underpay their people.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to set clear goals, communicate with each employee the payment structure and how they can make the right steps in their career. Some aspects of company culture start to get lost as the company grows bigger, this is definitely something that needs attention.

    Pros

People are nice to work with and deadlines are manageable.

    Cons

Management is heavily skewed toward the members of R&D. These people hold some sort of power over the heads of every department that prevents them from making their own decisions. Even when tech support found that there was a clear mistake on the part of R&D when coding a printer driver. The mistake was ignored and chucked up to the "s**t happens" pile. The mistake would have been easy to correct and even patch the software, but that would have required admission of the mistake. Instead they let Tech Support continue to deal with unhappy customers until the next development cycle (1 year).

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees more frequently, especially if they have direct contact with your customers. People in these areas can tell you what the climate is in the outside world and provide insight on how to improve the experience for the customer.
