    Pros

    Flexibility
    Location
    Variety of projects
    Free Coffee

    Cons

    Lack of Stability
    No clear strategic direction
    Layoffs
There is an "Old Boys Club" at this company
    Cost of Parking
    Limited training budget
    Poor Bench Management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't take on such "whale" clients that will cause you to terminate half your company if you lose that client. Balance your portfolio. Say no if you see this is a risk with the deal on the table. It may be tough to say no to revenue, but it's harder to lay people off and mess with their families and lives.

I have been working at Macadamian as a contractor

    Pros

Mostly short-term projects. You will get to do a lot of different stuff involving most popular technologies. Lots of opportunities to grow. Good life/work balance. Great people. There are development managers in place to help you achieve your personal goals within the business goals.

    Cons

Fairly low pay. Projects oftentimes are aggressively planned that could cause some grief to the whole team. Distributed nature of teams sometimes can make the work challenging due to time difference.

I have been working at Macadamian full-time

    Pros

From time to time you may get the chance to work on some major projects that would look great on a CV; prestigious stuff you can be proud of. The work-life balance is normally pretty good (but see below).

You get the opportunity to work some from home, after you've worked for the company for a for months, and that might be a big plus for some.

You get bi-weekly, all-hands meetings where you're given lunch, and are kept in the loop of the major news in the company. HR is usually pretty responsive to your questions and needs.

    Cons

Given the kind of work that the company does, sometimes the client takes a lot of control and you feel like you work for the client, instead of Macadamian. This can also affect the work-life balance.

There is a lot of Agile evangelism in the company. So if you don't buy into the Agile mantra, you may squirm at some of things you'll hear.

Project management is a crapshoot. Some of the PMs are great, some may micromanage you a bit too much.

The company is good about sharing the big picture, but can be very hush-hush about everything else. It isn't very predictable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the work-life balance strong. Keep the information strong.
