I have been working at Macquarie Group

    Pros

Fellow developers do help each other out. You work with a lot of intelligent people.

    Cons

Some areas of development are not too concerned about the quality of code. You are expected to work long hours, including weekends. New technologies are heavily vetted and so your chance to experiment with them is limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More emphasis on code quality, development of skills and technology

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging, competitive and get to work with smart people

    Cons

Losing its way. Cultural shifting from viewing staff as the most important assets from which innovations, ideas and reveneus come from to viewing staff as costs to be controlled.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Freedom within boundaries use to underpin how Macquarie operated. But, RMG has not been so good at setting the boundaries and freedoms have been compromised.
The entrepreneurship that use to be encouraged is now stifled.

    Negative Outlook

    Good breadth of product
    Great offices and locations
Decent reputation in some areas, awful in others...

    Cons

Hard to crack top management and earn decent cash
Had to question my ethics on more than one occasion
    Pressure environment at times

    Doesn't Recommend

  9.

Good in the short-term but lack of work-life balance ruins it

I worked at Macquarie Group as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Good opportunity to learn, smart co-workers, friendly staff and nice office location.

    Cons

Work-life balance non-existent. Culture of staff staying on to work even with nothing to do for the purpose of being seen to be working overtime. Overly staffed for jobs required resulting in high level of micro-management and several levels of review for even the simplest task.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Attempt to promote some form of work-life balance and flexible working options over valuing a culture of 12 hour days without the corresponding efficiency.

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are some great social perks in the Sydney office and the building itself is really good. Great location and I had the pleasure of working with some pretty great individuals. If you can find yourself in the right team, there is a good office culture.

    Cons

The salary they offer is below the industry standard yet they expect you to work above and beyond with no pay-off. I am not shy of hard work but I at least want to be appreciated for the extra work. They are quick to condemn but praise doesn't come as easily.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A lot of management are blatant with their favouritism. Across the board, management should be less bias and moreover, they need to listen to their employees! When concerns are raised there should be an effort to correct them ASAP not months later.

I have been working at Macquarie Group as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Challenging and highly competitive environment. Agile and new gen technologies are always welcome and open ended discussions that will help find new solutions to existing problems.

    Cons

High work load and work life balance on the downside. A little more organised work processes and procedures may help the people who get on board on contract.
