Unappreciative

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than a year

ProsGetting Paid. Getting enough hours to stay employed. Not enough for keeping up with rent and other basic necessities.

ConsTerrible concern for the employees, the discount is the same for the credit card offers or customers. Customer is always right even at the expense of job. However, you are against there policy and the ail amend it if you use it for explanation against the customer in favor of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo young for your position. Not enough experience and too focused on your own career than the responsibilities of leading employees.

Billion Dollar company that doesn't care for employees

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than a year

Pros- Great People
- Hard Workers
- ability to prepare you for any other job as you get moved around so much
- able to pick your own hours and switch around to best fit your schedule

Cons- discount only 20%
- pay is not worth all the work you do
- managers are rude
- a raise is only 20 to 50 cents

Advice to Senior Management-Remember when you were starting out as an associate and try your best to get to know everyone's individual personality's so that you can play up their best attributes.
- Keep a fun friendly environment so that the associate can truly feel an open door policy.
- Appreciate all the work that goes into making the store work from your associates

Great place to work, but average pay.

Loss Prevention Detective (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than a year

ProsFlexible schedule for full or part time associates. Meet very friendly people. Very nice merchandise and a great discount. Macy's card gets you more discounts

ConsThe beginning pay is average for all of the positions. No matter how good your review or scorecard is, your raise is still going to be low.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease the pay

Working for Macy's is a bit challenging but the day goes by quickly when you keep yourself busy.

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than a year

ProsMacy's offers benefits as long as you are available to work at least 30 hours per week.
The environment is upbeat and your surroundings keep you motivated to work hard and maintain a professional standard.
There is opportunity for growth if you latch on to the spirit of Macy's and absorb the training material, meet sales goals and maintain a positive attitude.

ConsIf you are hired for a seasonal position you might find yourself being shoved around or ignored for proper scheduling of hours if you are not outspoken about the situation.
If you are a regular employee you may find the night clean up process overwhelming. You might feel a little used if you are not one that likes to stay busy so that the time passes quickly.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour sales associates are people too.

numbers matter, people don't

Wedding Consultant (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Macy's part-time for more than a year

Prosto get a steady paycheck and some other benefits and pay your own way in society as opposed to living off of the government

ConsManagement has no problem lieing and does not care about anything but numbers. If you have talent and want to add value to a company, please do not consider this one.

Advice to Senior ManagementCease being corporate and political and get back to what a real business should be about.

Not worth it!

Sales Manager (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than a year

ProsThey offer a Good employee discount.

ConsThey expect you to work a ton for very little money. They throw huge amounts of money at EDP's but don't offer good compensation for managers with previous management experience.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit giving the EDP's such large salaries since they quit in a year anyway and spend some money on the Sales Managers that have experience and are more likely to stay. This might help your executive turnover rate....at least in the Atlanta market.

Overwork their Employees for Low Wages

Associate (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Macy's part-time

ProsMacy's Money and 25% off discount

ConsThey hire just about anybody. Most are here for a paycheck and so magically disappear when there's work to be done. A lot of work falls on the shoulders of few- only one manager, answers his phone

Advice to Senior ManagementActually answer the phone when an associate needs you

Macys had a good working environment. No a-holes and the customers were typically always courteous.

Sales Support Associate (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Macy's part-time for more than a year

ProsThey pay about $8.00/hr depending on your experience. A 20% discount on everything on top of items already on sale. You get a raise or just a review at some point, and everynow and then the company may provide a special lunchen or get together for the employees.

ConsReally strict about meeting sales and company standards.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey could be more reasonable when scheduling their associates for work when their also going to school.
