Pros
Good pay, especially if you work during the holiday season.
Simple tasks.
Easy to get away with not doing anything, if you're into that.
Cons
Lower-level employees are given no respect from those in "higher" positions.
The atmosphere is that of a high school cafeteria.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop being so condescending.
Learn that those under you are not complete morons, and are entirely capable of understanding the rude things you say about them when you think they are not listening.
Pros
small store....you get a chance to know everyone. lots of games involving getting "credits"....if you are good at meeting your credit quota you will have an extensive perfume collection.
Most of the managers are great people and will help you with any problems you come across.
Cons
PAY......they will lowball you on hourly wages compared with other retailers. The new scorecard system is confusing and time consuming....the pressure for credits runs downhill to the clients, who are bombarded with pleas from employees to get a Macy's card.
Pros
enpowering leadership results driven results compensated, strong recognition
Cons
becoming micromanaged, big organization could lose your voice,,NY is ridgid,,MENS is terrible
Advice to Senior Management
carry yourself as a expert in people
Pros
I needed a job I was able t get on making $12.00
Cons
Office equipment is old, using CRT's not impressed with the behind the scenes w/Macy's
Advice to Senior Management
Just "ASK" staff
Pros
Promotions from within are common if you strive for them. Company has positive attitude in my experience, unlike some retail chains.
Each store has it's own personnel therefore its own personality, but as a company, they train well, are upbeat, well-run and try to help customers, but the stores can be insanely busy because of the amazing sales opportunities/ It's a difficult balance and corporate is trying hard to address the challenge of good customer service, crazy good sales and treating employees fairly.
Cons
Hours in retail are always difficult, but during holidays, Macy's is brutal with store hours ranging variously from 4 a.m. until 1 a.m. at Christmas.
Since Macy's runs such huge discounts, it is a VERY busy store, unlike, for example, a Dillard's, which has somewhat similar merchandise. Therefore, there is just no way to give the level of service on sale days that an somewhat more exclusive (read "less busy") retail store can.
Pros
The benefits are wonderful, your superiors work with you to grow to your desired level, and the work balance life is very fair.
Cons
Working the holidays is always rough, especially when the customers are so grouchy. The pay can be very rewarding once you have established yourself.
Pros
My team in my department.
Cons
Store Management needs to be supportive.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat each person with respect.
Pros
Great Discounts and Fashion updates
Cons
Disorganized and unprofessional employees and executives
Advice to Senior Management
Managers need to take on leadership roles and stop allowing employees to run over them.
Pros
The product is fabulous, lots of emphasis placed on teamwork and I received plenty of praise for a job well done.
Cons
I didn't like wearing all black as it is kind of depressing and I had to buy several new things.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to treat employees respectfully. Better communication with the merchandising team would be helpful as sometimes directions were not clear.
Pros
One word is discount. Meeting some of the nice associates who have worked at the store for a long time.
Cons
They don't appreciate that some high end departments require associates who are professional and very knowledgeable. They think anyone walking off the street can fill these positions, therefore ruining the credibility of the whole department. This scares customers away. Some of the management has no idea of how to service the customer. Macy's has terrible hours especially during the holidays.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to pop into the store unannounced and see what kind of inept managers you have for store level management and in human resources.
