Having no customers.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the needs of your staff and be fair.
Pros

Cons
Crazy store hours at times
Advice to Senior Management
Some mangers were very involved and knew what was happening on the floor. Other managers did not spend very much time on the floor and seemed unapproachable.
Pros
Macy's is a cool place to work if you have a full time job elsewhere and you want to make a little extra cash. Its especially cool during the holidays. If you do a good job you can get "Macy's Money" ($3 off $6 purchase or $5 off $10). That coupled with the discount and insider info on sales and merchandise is nice if you enjoy shopping at Macy's.
Cons
The pay for sales associates isn't really that great. Its hard to live off of the money made here.
Advice to Senior Management
Boost the morale of your team by encouraging them in a positive way. Keep the Macy's money coming, it is a motivator. Chill with the ridiculous sales goals. (Although, I suppose this is a corporate issue.)
Pros
Nice friendly employees, though this can depend on store. Promotion within. benefits are good (have to be in a certain position to be eligible tho.)
Cons
Store manager sets the tone of the work environment. Not enough recognition for the little guys, always same people who are praised. Pay is on lower side. Very sales goal orientated. Have to work all holidays and only 1 weekend off a month. Pay is higher for long term employees rather than based on performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciate all employees, more praise is needed to boast morale on shop floor.
Pros
For retail, it's a great work environment with lots of positive feedback from the managers; they literally cheer you on. The salary is very competitive with other retail stores and they offer monetary rewards for achieving sales goals.
Cons
It's hard to survive on this salary alone in today's economic climate. But this is the nature of this type of employment.
Pros
great resources, great training, smart people
Cons
you feel trapped some times, no bonuses, average pay
Advice to Senior Management
practice what you preach with your sales managers
Pros
Good training program, sharp look at future events, growth
Cons
work and life balance. pricing and signing confusing to the associate and customer
Pros
Great colleagues and helping friendly customers.
Cons
The low salary, long hours and rude customers.
Pros
If you just rely on this job as a little spending money, it's fine. Employee discounts can be great, especially during Friends and Family events. "Macy Bucks" are also a good way to get quality merchandise at a deeply discounted price.
Cons
1% sales commission that is taken away as the returns roll in. For so little commission, an employee is expected to keep client lists and when Macy's has an "Jewelry Show" you are expected to wait on customers and sell jewelry with the commission and perks going to your manager for free jewelry or full-time people.
Advice to Senior Management
You should get hired in as a manager if you plan on working for Macy's. For part-time associate, you are expected to work sometimes 7 days a week and getting in less than thirty hours.
