Pros
Its the largest retail in the world so it that looks great on your resume.
Cons
long hours and pay can be better
Pros
The 20% employee discount on most things, can be combined with coupons.
Cons
Terrible Human Resource department, extremely poor management, management is on an ego trip, low pay, terrible benefits, technology is from 1985, low morale, overall bad communication.
Advice to Senior Management
Get off your high horse and actually manage people. Have a holiday party, everyone resents you for taking it away then having a meeting once a year to tell us how much money we are making (none of us see it)
Pros
- great people and collaborative team nature
- giant powerhouse retailer
- focused on development of brand and culture
- great learnings from multiple roles
Cons
At the time I was with the company there were several internal reorganizations which impacted my experience. It was a hectic time and very unorganized as teams dissolved and regrouped. Many roles were unclear and the shift within the company did not foster much goodwill.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer better training within business practices, i.e. marketing training forum, merchant training forum. Many employees are frustrated with the amount of paperwork and red tape it takes to get things done. Other retailers are much quicker with thier go to market advertising strategy.
Pros
Setting your own goals and achieving them will bring you opportunities. You must be a self starter and not rely on anyone else.
Cons
Salary is not competitive with other companies. Too much to do and not enough people to get the job done.
Advice to Senior Management
Lead by EXAMPLE. I saw too many colleagues pointing their finger and not enough taking action.
Pros
Employee discount is very generous
Cons
Long hours and standing on feet
Advice to Senior Management
more feedback to employees
Pros
you learn visual standards , given big responsibilities, Knowing your DM's by name and seeing them often, Working in one of the most challenging stores in the Mid-Atlantic region , Working in an A/B door (merchandise wise)
Cons
No room for advancement , no respect giving from the visual manager, Being singled out when things aren't going the "right way" , Rude personal stabs
Advice to Senior Management
Go in with tough skin and only stay for the max of 2 years. the managers are there to dictate and nothing else having personal relationships is out, the organization and communication in that store is extremely horrible, the turnover rate is very high
Pros
They will hire anyone. I really mean anyone whether you speak great English or very little. Also you get a discount on clothes, a small one.
Cons
The pay is not great and there is no room to really grow unless you stay for more then a decade and even at that rate its not a guarantee.
Advice to Senior Management
Implement a system that includes base plus commission much like Bloomingdale. Also they should offer a way to grow in the company.
Pros
you get paid weekly as opposed to other places that pay bi-weekly
Cons
pay is very low
extremely busy
employees are rude
managers are rude

Pros
Macy's provides good opportunities for internal advancement.
Cons
Macy's is a very large company with many employees.
Pros
Employee discount combined with regular sales = HUGE savings. Most employees got away with paying $0-10 for items originally costing from $80-100. $0 comes into effect when you use your "employee bucks" or whatever they were called. (These were hard to come by however.)
Cons
Departments don't have enough people working them. Very large areas often left to 1-2 people over the entire day.
Managers are terribly incompetent. Lethargic employees get away with taking too many breaks, sneaking away to talk on their phones for hours, listlessly wandering the department, spending all their time at the register, etc. 80% of my coworkers belonged to this category, leaving 75-90% of the work to me.
All for $7.25/hr....? What a joke.
Advice to Senior Management
PUT ENOUGH PEOPLE ON SHIFT. I don't want to cover an entire women's department for 6-8hrs out of the day by myself.
DISCIPLINE EMPLOYEES. I'm tired of seeing one person do all the work.
