Pros
Almost everything is straight forward and clear.
Cons
Honestly my only problem is standing all the working time which is normal for all retail jobs in US but it comes very weird for me as a foreigner.
Advice to Senior Management
Please! more under 6 hours shift to pick. I cannot stand over 6 hours :)
Pros
I enjoy the different aspects of the job. I get to meet people from all over the world. I get to influence young people and help develop a good work ethic in them.
Cons
The sale days with pries changing on a daily basis. Trying to keep signs accurate and merchandise in the right place so customers don't get confused and upset.
Advice to Senior Management
I think the pricing structure should change. Permanent markdowns are OK but the constant change up and down on Macy's brands is confusing many customers and the biggest cause for customer dissatisfaction.
Pros
In the trainng for what I was doing nothing really applied to my position. Being a replenishment associate is common sense. If its missing then replace it.Human resources is really good at handling everything plus real good place to make new friends.
Cons
The whole picking your hours thing on insite wasnt to cool with. I had to stay up until the next day in order to actually get hours. Managers are extremly hard to find some of the time and also seemed stressed out most of the time. Some associates take their job way too seriously.
Advice to Senior Management
Be around so the new hires wil know what to do. Other than that your fine with me. I can say I enjoyed coming into work everyday.
Pros
able to interact with customers, had some great co-workers
Cons
Treated horribly, bad management, no flexibility, disrespected, taken advantage of
Advice to Senior Management
Get a clue!
Pros
Flexible..at least you can depend on a based pay. Full time employees have benefits...
Cons
Staff turnover high .Performance and timing is automated by the computer system, leaving you in a difficult situation if you are sick or emergency. You lose a point even if you call in. Lost .5 points if you are late. With this economy it is difficult to make commission..you carry home your base pay most times
Pros
Good work environment for the most part. All work performance monitored on a scorecard weekly. 45 min break and one 15 min break that you have to be on top to get both
Cons
Veterans are very territorial and sales people that make commission they call them Sharks because they will steal customers if they see you have a line just because they know you will not fight in front of customers. Older employees also see new employees that catch on easily as a threat and will make bad comments just make sure you go in with tough skin.
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure you watch old employees just as much as the new ones. Have better holiday flexibility and hours explained
Pros
I loved the fact I was able to meet new people. Great place to learn how to sell. Also they give you incentive to sell and open cards by providing "macy's money" to pay up to half the price of a product you'd like to buy there.
Cons
I understand customer satisfaction is important, but sometimes I felt that customers that wanted to take advantage of associates and treat them poorly were rewarded with discounts and other things. I remember being scolded for not allowing a customer to treat me rudely, even though I maintained respect for the customer, I still didn't allow them to walk all over me, and had to hear it from a higher up.
Advice to Senior Management
I think it's just as important to have internal customer service as well as external customer service. When you have happy sales associates, you get more sales, customers are treated better, and productivity rises. When sales associates are ignored, they tend to be more negative to customers, care less about their jobs, and it will show in the numbers.
Pros
vairous types of jobs available... sales, management, HR, operations, visual, planning, buying the list goes on.
Cons
Work life Balance. Vactions, paid time off not acceptable after September. Work weekends, nights and any special events.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't forget that your employees have families. Dont ruin their holidays.
Pros
Training is very extenive and frequent
Cons
No job security or advancement
Pros
Employee Discount
Extra holiday cash during holidays
Cons
Extremely poor communication
Associates are allowed to do whatever they want
Management is mean and hostile, often swearing and yelling and are quick to blame associates
Customers allowed to treat associates badly no matter the reason and are often rewarded for that with discounts and coupons
Promises of growth never happen
Some associates have not gotten a pay increase in 5 years and some have even had pay reduced to minimum wage
Extreme competitiveness for sales often resulting with arguments in front of customers and on the floor
Absolutely no communication and store manager is not at all involved
Macy's stopped the Work/Life/Balance program
Advice to Senior Management
Please have management work in all the positions in the store for at least a week. Also management should be held to the same standards that the "regular" associates are. There is a very distinct line between management and the employees that make the store work. Macy's also needs to review the compensation program. The pay does not offer a liveable wage. Managers are buying 300.00 shoes when sales associates have to apply for food stamps. May be good for a few dollars during the holiday season but there is no future with the company.
