    Pros

own boss unless manager is needed, good lunch times . You meet nice people and earn free things , easy hire

    Cons

Working with people that are rude, rude customers, competition, cleaning fitting rooms can get CRAZY and nasty from customers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more understanding when it comes to sales and meeting goals unless your on the floor making and meeting a sales goal its not always easy and more understanding about the fitting rooms

    I worked at Macy's

    Pros

The Store Management EDP program is designed to train recent graduates into proficient sales managers and to advance up based on your desires. If you enjoy retail and are able to keep up with the fast-paced working environment, this job can be considered. The training program is great, and the company is highly invested in your growth, as they would ideally prefer the college grads to advance. However, you will be responsible for training a highly efficient team of employees as well as dealing with your sales goals, store events, big sales, etc. . Opportunities for advancement are readily available, just depending on how you present yourself and how well you network with upper management.

    Cons

The hours are not stable, and you might feel stressed out from the fast-paced nature of the job. Lots of time is spent on the store floor, emphasis is on coaching your employees, so sometimes there seems to be little time to analyze your business. Work-life balance was difficult, but if you are ready for the challenge, go ahead and try.

I worked at Macy's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are not bad. Vacation/PTO time is great (4 weeks in your first year). If you do your job you are left alone.

    Cons

Hours. No career direction. The work life balance was not there, but it is retail. One weekend off every six weeks, at least they try.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look within for advancement. I saw a lot of great people leave due to VPSM's holding onto talent and not letting them go.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Personal and long term growth with an established Company with numerous locations nationwide. Extremely culturally diverse.

    Cons

There were no cons actually. Due to the shortage of AST's the HR office was somewhat delayed yet every applicant was acknowledged immediately and treated professionally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Continue doing a great job.

    Pros

Great experience with customer service, all of the people were great to work with and I learned a lot about myself as well as Macy's as a company. Great training program as well.

    Cons

I worked there over the winter holidays for 2013 and experienced a lot of mishaps that I am assuming are rare during regular retail months. It wasn't bad but I won't go back as a seasonal employee.

    Pros

Very innovative company. Keyed-in to the shifts of the economy and the ever-changing retail trends.

    Cons

The EDP program highlights certain people whether they deserve it or not. The rest of us are the left to figure it all out with a minimum amount of help or guidance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keeping people where they are because it makes your job easier is a terrible business plan.
