I worked at Macy's as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The extensive product knowledge of the sales staff was truly impressive and made my job much easier.

    Cons

Feedback from regular employees who struggled with sales quotas and lower wages. These sales people are amazing at what they do and are always professional and courteous to their clientele. They should be better compensated, in my opinion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward your hard workers. Go to bat for them with corporate, for better wages or cash incentives of some sort. Macy's is a tremendous success because of your "front line" personnel.

I worked at Macy's full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

i enjoyed working with the sales staff, as they are all quite knowledgeable and give superb customer service.

    Cons

The pay scale is lower than other upscale department stores and sales people were under a lot of pressure to meet their sales goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Connect more with your sales staff and provide them with better incentives to work so hard for the corporation, i.e. Decent pay raises or cash incentives for reaching sales goals. Lower wages make it difficult for people to pay their bills and support their families. Macy's has many dedicated, loyal associates, who are superior at what they do. Their knowledge of product amazes me, as well as their excellent customer service skills.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

It's a nice facility for a call center

    Cons

Terrible communication: No one knows what is going on or what to tell new hires. As new hires, we were in a 2 week training class for 4 weeks. I was never told who my supervisor was or get "phone certified" before they through me into a "graduation" . Terrible training: Trainers were never on the same page. Trainers were barely even in the room. They never set an expectation on what was to happen next. They went very far out of their way to ignore me when I needed assistance. Terrible planning

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Redo your entire training program. Hire better trainers or stick them in a class on how to train people.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Not a huge work load (besides the holidays), Management is very friendly and understanding. Company values their customers, Employees have a bond.

    Cons

The pay is not the greatest. It is a two week wait to even be called in for training. There is a lot of work that is independent so you are only 90% of the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay your employees better.

I worked at Macy's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The ability to create your own flexible schedule online. The choice to pick any area at the store to work in for the shift.

    Cons

Management lacks communication with sales employees. You are treated like a number to make numbers. Sales goals stress a lot of employees out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a daily pre shift with your employees.

They are really good to their employees

    Cons

I give it a 4 because I think the pay isn't all that great here in the Las Vegas locations.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I was in woman shoes the only department capable of making money. Macy's is culturally a great american iconic store. Customer interaction was great plus working at fashion show mall we got many tourists which was also fun.

    Cons

No management supervision, not enough pay, to much hustle for to little payout, no growth, over hire in the commissions area. They cut hours often. Just a horrible job in general I do not recommend this job to anyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat associates with respect and promote from within.

I worked at Macy's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Flexible sheduling
    -Employee discount
    -Work life balance
    -Sales and promotions
    - Charity
Average retail company. I enjoyed my coworkers and loved my employee discount which allowed sale items to be combined with employee discount and coupons. The company is also big on charity and giving back which is important. Online sheduling system allowed for work-life balanced shifts can easliy be given away or added.

    Cons

    Compensation
    Leadership
    Small opportunity for gowth

While not a bad company to work for the chances for advancment are slim. Store leadership only cares about numbers and opening Macy's cards not the growth of their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on developing the talent in your store.
