    I worked at Macy's

    Pros

Alot. I loved working at Macy's. Every morning they have team rallies some day its annoying but most of the time they're enjoyable. The managers are really friendly. Some day you meet your sale goals with ease. They have an open door policy so any issues you can talk to your manager. You have some opportunities to advance they do tend to promote from within. You meet a lot of different people. Lots of benefits (employees discounts, big sale days, Macy's bucks). You can pick up open shifts and can work a lot of hours if you want. You can give away your shift if you can't work without having to get your manager involved if you are a student or work another job you can actually have a life.

    Cons

You have to stand the majority if not all your shifts. Fitting rooms tend to get overloaded and sometimes its hard to work the floor and clean the fitting room. Some associates are very selfish and they do tend to be pushy towards customers depending on your demeanor you may not like that. Some days are slow and you have too much associates working. You are pushed to get customers to open Macy's card.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good job so far. Some manager are pushy about opening Macy's card and making sells when the store is empty.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Macy's cosmetics allows you to take home three tester size cosmetics per shift. It's a great way to try the products and know how they work out. Co- workers are very friendly and laid back. HR is very personable and kind. Most can work at different displays, Chanel, Lancome, Clinique etc...

    Cons

Hours can be long and boring when it is not busy, you will stand the entire time and you cant leave your area much.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Macy's is a great company to work for with lots of room for advancement, with stores all over the Nation. The company not only offers it's employees generous compensation and discounts to numerous other retailers, it also generously gives back to the local communities in which it's stores are located.

    Cons

There is nothing that happens in this company that would not happen in any other position.

I have been working at Macy's

    Pros

The company is very flexible with the schedule, they give you points for your attendace which you can use in case of emergency or absence. If you work hard, and you demonstrate the capacity to bea leader you have great chance to grow inthe company.

    Cons

It's not only help customer and ring the sales. As a sales associatd you have to recover the floor, fitting room, reach your daily goals in orddr to get your comission, open credit cards, work with your clientele. You habe to add client to your personal list through their system and you have to marketing macys through those client to invite them to the store for events so they can take advantage o f it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manager has to be more connected with the associates and support them. A good manager is not theone that tell all the time what you have to do. A good manager is the leader set the expectations but also in rush time fold their sleeves and get dirty too.

    I worked at Macy's

    Pros

During Christmas season you can make lots of commission. Once I made about $5,000. Good place to work if managers like you.

    Cons

It is fine to work at Macy's if you do not have back or leg problems, nor over weighted. they do not let you sit down to take a break.

    I have been working at Macy's full-time

    Pros

Less stress than other companies. the job can be fun.

    Cons

Equipment (CCTV) is extremely outdated..so is the program they use for reports. Hard to be productive with DOS in this day and age. They also promise you positions but do not follow through. The only way to move up is to do the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the programs used in AP. Train the detectives properly from the beginning and reward them if they are good...and not just because they been there for a while. knowledge and experience beats a dirt bag that stays under the radar.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good employee discounts, somewhat flexible schedule, good web site to review pay, schedules and benefits. Some managers are very good.

    Cons

Massively disorganized operations, not enough support staff, very poor training, grumpy HR people and some managers who just cannot be bothered to actually help employees. Commissions sales creates cut throat environment and no guidance of how to work well with co workers in such an environment results in unprofessional situations between employees, often right in front of customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start caring more about making the work environment efficient for you employees, it will translate into higher morale and better sales and goals results.
