I have been working at Macy's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good work life balance, friendly employees, fun(but can be serious)management

    Cons

Minimum wage, work day can be tough depending on the size of the truck, lack of hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to compensate their employees a bit better, give raises for those who have been there for more than a year and slow down on hiring too many people so that those who want hours can actually get them because most people that get hired barely even show up for work.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fellow associates and some management were the only reason I looked forward to being there and the job function itself I always enjoyed

    Cons

Hostile work environment , "witch hunts" looking for any excuse to terminate you if you crossed the wrong individual (in my case a regional Loss Prevention manager) their in house "solutions in store" is a joke

    I worked at Macy's part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Made some really good friends for the most part but it'll be hard to make friends with people you can trust now. It's in the mall which I like I guess.

    Cons

    Horrible managers
    Some horrible coworkers
    Horrible pay
For the most part I felt like I was in high school all over again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop gossiping and if your going to tell someone how to do their job learn what the job consists of first

I have been working at Macy's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good to have a part time job while looking for a full times job. Love working with people(customers). Putting together clothing ensembles for purchasers.

    Cons

No benefits for part timers, competition between Associates makes people nasty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe the Associates should be trained how to get along with other Associates who receive commission and treat each other as they would a customer.

I worked at Macy's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good Commissions, Great to meet people

    Cons

Department leads are snakes and steal sales like crazy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reworking the payment structure for department leads would be the biggest improvement. It was horrible to do all the talking, displaying, and small talk just to go up to the register and see the lead enter his information on the sale. This was something that all of the associates were complaining about and to no avail.

I worked at Macy's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, amazing management experience for new college grads, wonderful mentoring program, great vacation and pay for new grads. EDP's can experience fast promotions if work hard, have great results, and willing to relocate. Also, best associate discount program hands down.

    Cons

Job is all about coaching your employees. Can be very stressful depending on your store manager. In my district there was very little promotion opportunities due to lack of interest in promotions from district and senior executives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop giving sales manager more responsibilities than they can handle and expecting minimum wage paid associates to deliver customer service comparable to luxury retailers who pay much more
