I worked at Macy's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Super knowledgeable and respectable people at the helm. Never for a moment doubted senior executives knew what they were doing.

Compensation was extremely fair. Management will definitely look out for you if you put in the work and have a motivated and 'can do' attitude.

Vacation time was great and bonus structure was as well.

Very laid back teams of down to earth people.

    Friendly and open culture.

    Cons

Some teams had tendency to look at minutiae rather than big picture. Very common for buyers to become emotional about products and lose sight of $ value.

Like any large corporation, implementing change against established norms tended to be difficult.

Low pay for lower levels and difficult to get ahead if you're in a department not in the main spotlight.

HR NOT good for helping with growth. Definitely on you to blaze your own path. Speak up and get noticed. If not, you'll stay where you are forever, regardless of how good you are.

Super cliquey with an overemphasis on fashion rather than the numbers behind it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. Need additional contact with senior management. Nebulous link between VP and buyers / planners.

I worked at Macy's as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The hours were regular/consistent and they do summer fridays. Everyone I worked with was very helpful and I'd say it's overall a positive work environment.

    Cons

At times it was slow and there was not much to do. I heard from employees I worked with that it was hard to transition to other parts or different areas/fields of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My manager was extremely encouraging and always up for explaining or answering any questions...this is a good example to follow while working with interns.

    Pros

Great work life balance. Salary + overtime, which I thought was odd. Really great people and culture and creative team. Fun seasonal outings.

    Cons

The systems you use to do your job are outdated and difficult to work with. Other than that I like it.

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The compensation package is amazing and includes those that work on a part-time basis. Many times during trainings products were offered to us and they were pricey items that were offered to us to try at home. Opportunities for personal growth are offered based on your commitment to the company and place high amongst the charts for daily goals, items per transactions, Macy's accounts and so forth.

    Cons

Getting a raise was a challenge and the management team would micromanage the associates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Speak the the associates like human beings, do not micromanage the associates, it causes them to become disgruntled and rebel against you.
