I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The best reason to work here is the company really gives back to the community and has a lot of volunteer work to be involved with.

    Cons

Some of the challenges of working here are the people in the visual department are rude. Some people address people like they are children and no one should ever speak to anyone with such disrespect. They promote who they want to and there is a lot of cliques.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be involved actively in your department and open your eyes and ears to what's really taking place with your employees. You would understand why no one stays and get other jobs outside the company.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - commission is great if you're great in selling - must be charismatic, talkative, charming, know ongoing sales and promotions well
    - room for growth in company
    - paid time off
    - request 3 days off a month (days are untouchable by automated schedule)
    - can pick up shifts, give up or swap shifts very easily - everything is online, you can also track your attendance ratings, and check your clock in/out times.
    - schedule is super flexible

    Cons

    - commission selling is competitive environment
    - must be able to handle a fast-paced environment
    - be good at persuading, talking customers into sales
    - keep track of your customers so they do not walk away from the sale, and also this avoids another associate from swooping in and stealing your sale - your sales are your paycheck! be on your game

    Pros

-company culture is great; everyone is self-motivated and relaxed
    -compensation is nice
-once full-time offer is extended, pay increases
-opportunities are great for climbing the corporate ladder here

    Cons

    -full-time benefits could be better
-for how expensive NYC is, the compensation could be a lot higher, especially since some interns at other companies get paid much better
-NYC is only great if you're accustomed to it and during the summer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

my personal experience with management was great, they really made an effort to get to know their team on every level, including interns

    Pros

Friendly people, although there can be some disagreement but generally speaking it's ok.
20% associate discount. sometimes--usually once a month there is extra 10.

    Cons

there are way too many things to do besides selling makeup, open credit cards can be a big headache. Schedule system is not so efficient--there can be 5 people opening but no one closing

I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I appreciate the Corporate backing. The management philosophy understands that the customer is the center of our universe. We are focused on the right demographics, and have an excellent marketing strategy. Vacation package is excellent.

    Cons

Work / life balance is lacking. While vacations are given the time to take them is very small. Sales goals are not very achievable especially understanding that in store sales are declining while online increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on long term sales associates. The enormous amount of turnover is an obvious reflection of the on-boarding process and sales level compensation package.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

People were pretty nice. Product was fun to work on. Great Benefits!

    Cons

No room for promotion (everyone stays forever in the upper level positions because the benefits are so good.). The area of the building that I worked in was dark and not very inviting to come to everyday. Human resources wasn't very helpful inner department turmoil.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to be more opportunities to be promoted. Get better lighting so that its a happier place to come to work to.
