I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - commission is great if you're great in selling - must be charismatic, talkative, charming, know ongoing sales and promotions well
    - room for growth in company
    - paid time off
    - request 3 days off a month (days are untouchable by automated schedule)
    - can pick up shifts, give up or swap shifts very easily - everything is online, you can also track your attendance ratings, and check your clock in/out times.
    - schedule is super flexible

    Cons

    - commission selling is competitive environment
    - must be able to handle a fast-paced environment
    - be good at persuading, talking customers into sales
    - keep track of your customers so they do not walk away from the sale, and also this avoids another associate from swooping in and stealing your sale - your sales are your paycheck! be on your game

Not bad for a first job

Former Employee - Seasonal Recovery Associate in Columbus, OH
Former Employee - Seasonal Recovery Associate in Columbus, OH

I worked at Macy's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The pay was good for what I was doing, and the supervisor was really casual and friendly. Even during the (stressful) holiday retail season, my supervisor and full-time colleagues never broke from a calm, friendly demeanor.

    Cons

One thing that kind of bugged me was that they seemed to severely overstaff, and so I was periodically asked to not come in for my shift. I'm glad they didn't have me come in and do nothing, but it was a little disappointing that I didn't get as many hours as I was told I would get in this job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All in all, not too bad.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good work life balance, friendly employees, fun(but can be serious)management

    Cons

Minimum wage, work day can be tough depending on the size of the truck, lack of hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to compensate their employees a bit better, give raises for those who have been there for more than a year and slow down on hiring too many people so that those who want hours can actually get them because most people that get hired barely even show up for work.

Career Growth if you work hard and are willing to work 50-55 hours each week.

    Cons

Can be a tough place to work depending on your store manager. They expect a lot and have high expectations of SM's.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Macy's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Joined as seasonal associate and resigned as I had to move to a different state.
The work environment is so friendly. Even if the job is kind of stressful as taking phone calls continuously, but the surrounding people will make you relax. The schedules are not bad as it worked well for me. They will schedule you depending on your availability and students got preferences. Benefits are very good compared to any other retail businesses. Work -life balance is possible very well. During holiday season, you can earn extra bucks as offers overtimes.

    Healthy work environment
    cooperative managers
    Place to grow
    wonderful benefits
lively work environment and lots of fun activities all year round
    training opportunities.

    Cons

I can't find any cons as I have never faced one.Different departments get different activities. The managers from my department was very good and I worked with almost all of them. So can't write any cons depending on my experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work!
