It's fun to help recover the store over the holidays.

They are bad with hiring people back even after working for 2 years.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get a great experience learning a lot at once. You learn from fittings to recovery to customer service and sales. Great for a resume and personal experience.

    Cons

Stand for long periods. Schedule doesn't always work with your availability. Dress code can be a little pricey itself.

    Advice to Management

Management at this Macy's needs to hire a Spanish speaking manager to be able to help and deal with Spanish only speakers. They have to rely on bilingual associates to translate for them making it a bit awkward.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the associates care about their customers; others just fake it.

    Cons

The customers are "pigs". Communication between sales associates and their managers is inconsistent and deceiving. HR is rarely available and does not communicate and/or follow-up when asked for their assistance.

    Advice to Management

Better communication and accountability with managers. Need to be more selective in hiring associates as well as managers. It's not just about making your numbers.

    Pros

love working with my Co-workers, everyone in my dept works in a helpful environment and not sales hungry, commission is not much but its something, discounts

    Cons

pay, schedule, too many managers trying to co-manage our department, We had our manager for our dept but there would be times where other managers comes in and tells us how to do our job without even introducing themselves. They would tell us one thing when we already have an agreement with our own manager on how to do things in our dept. managers always pushing to get credits, sometimes doesn't feel appreciated with the things we do but managers always looking at what we haven't done yet.

    Advice to Management

show some appreciation sometimes without always focusing on other things

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of hands on experiance. Learned a lot. Exciting at times and during the holidays made some good overtime pay. Some people were fun to work with.

    Cons

Very political and depending on who you talk with on what day is if you'll get in trouble or not. No clear direction on what your responsibility is to the company. Feels like your the fall person for operations, HR, sales and every other manager group.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule and you can pick hours. Glamorous atmosphere. Co- workers and management are nice. If you only want part time it is good.

    Cons

Very poor pay, though retail is that way. Good jobs are only offered to recent graduates who are interns or generally have worked for Macy's before.

    Advice to Management

Help to open doors for salespeople to get management jobs, especially those who aren't necessarily young. Managers should be sent to management workshops to improve skills.
