I worked at Macy's as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Great company culture and involvement. Breakfasts with Execs was really interesting. Beautiful brand new building in San Francisco. Interesting dynamic with intern project. Very much enjoyed it.

    Cons

Thought I was doing well and received good feedback, and was confused at not receiving and offer.

I worked at Macy's (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good mgmt, 401k matching contributions, profit sharing, medical benefits, & employee discounts

    Cons

Understaffed, work overload, low pay, small raises, vacation time blackouts

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

mgmt & support staff are understaffed & overworked w/unrealistic objectives. There needs to be more staff & incentives for support. Too many floor moves, @ critical times of the year, & store visits on top of under trained associates.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Leadership team is excellent, one of the best groups of people I've had the pleasure to work with. Definitely a "family atmosphere" at my store, although I've heard that other stores do not have as good a working environment. Excellent webinare-type leadership training.

    Cons

Low pay (but that's inherent to retail). Systems are pretty antiquated. Also, requiring an employee to apply for a store credit card in order to receive the employee discount was disappointing. Nothing else really comes to mind.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revisit the compensation scale. The only reason I would jump ship is more more pay. Would also suggest requiring the long-term leadership to go through refresher training.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed the people I worked with. Great flexibility with schedule. Double-edged sword of having an employee discount.

    Cons

One of the problems I faced on almost every shift was the lack of communication between the associates and the managers. On the whole, Macy's also just doesn't put enough people on shifts, so customers are constantly annoyed that they can't find associates to help them, or have to wait in long lines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add more employees to each shift.

I have been working at Macy's

    Pros

I have learned a lot from the those I've come in contact with.

    Cons

The pay isn't too great and management doesn't do anything when you tell them about issues in the workplace. If it weren't for my direct manager, I'd probably add one more star to the overall review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, just because you don't see what their they're talking about doesn't mean it's happening. It would be nice If there was more communication with the team.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The only pros were my co-workers and my customers that I grew to know personally.

    Cons

Management makes you feel like you are trying to find a cure for cancer or solve world piece the way they pressure you to sell and get credit. In the reality I'm selling lipstick. I was a manager in cosmetics for Clarins. Its very grueling and the pressure can get to you the way management handles it. Especially HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that every single employee is working their hardest to sell and when you pressure us it takes a toll and in the end works to their disadvantage.
