I have been working at Macy's

    Pros

flex hours, nice people, interesting projects, great team spirit, good training, enthusiastic leadership, good work life balance, caring management, good career path, new office building, good commute options, employee discount

    Cons

too many layers of management, hard to find a contact for needed information to complete a project, salary not competitive in the marketplace leading to many openings not filled on a timely basis, need better co-operations from managers/directors competing for the same projects(dollars),

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need better communication and co-operation between MCOM and MST. Need to reward high performers with better raises so we are not losing them in this competitive market. We spent too much time training new people to come up to speed only to lose them and take away all the business knowledge with them.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

This is for Macy's.com and Bloomingdale's.com, the technical arms of Macy's corporation.

Macy's is a huge organization with a lot of resources. They are fighting to remain relevant to the Amazon and Googles of the world, and aren't doing that bad of a job of it.
Work culture, while non-existent is pretty low key. No one stresses out and people are generally pretty nice. No worries, be happy sort of place.
Their new initiatives like Apple Pay, buy online/pickup in store, and same day delivery are aggressive and good signs of a company staying up to date with a changing marketplace.

    Cons

Absolutely no culture to speak of.
Lots of contractors and consultants so nobody really has ownership.
Big company = slow movement. Most projects take a year or longer.
Only 5 days off a year.
Regular employees have to track hours for project tracking reasons.
Much older workforce; not a negative, but definitely not common in the Valley. Going out after work doesn't really happen.
You're not usually challenged in your job, and work at a 20% capacity. (again, maybe not a negative?)
Meetings. Meetings. Meetings. And nothing really getting done. (typical big company thing)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You know that lean lab thing you guys always push? Why not actually shift the entire tech arm to be like that. It's not just a good idea in theory, but also in practice. As an example: see every company in tech currently doing well.
    Hire younger people if possible.

    Pros

This company offers lots of training and guide tools to help with presentation and management. There is strong leadership in place to help you achieve goals. Human Resources is very helpful with staffing issues.

    Cons

The hours are very long and expected in management. Would never be a 8-5 job, more likely 6 am- 6pm..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage employees to create a balance between work and personal life.
