Pros
There is a lot of recognition and managers notice when you are trying to do well. They want you to perform better and will give you coaching to help achieve your potential.
Cons
Sales associates are forced to work as if they are on commission, but they do not actually receive any bonus or commission for doing a good job with a customer.
Pros
good opportunities for promotion. the people are friendly and it has a good pay and can even increase with more experience.
Cons
the training is long but when it comes to understanding how to work the cash register your on your own and it will come with practice.
Advice to Senior Management
i have no words for the mangement because many of them are extrewmely nice and complete their jobs with exceptional ability.
Pros
Macy's is know for advancing people up within the organization, if an individual wants a career in retail they should consider Macy's.
Cons
Retail has hard hours during 4th quarter
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to get on the floor and notice all of their employees
Pros
We were able to make our own schedule on-line for the holiday season. It was great to be able to pick your own hours! All the other seasonal workers were great to work with!
Cons
If you didn't sign on by 7am to pick your schedule there were barely any hours left. I was planning on going for atleast 20 hours a week and barely got 10.
Pros
Macy's is a wonderful place to work, would definetly go back. It is a Great job for anyone at any age
Cons
There are not to many cons for working at Macy's, my over all experience was great, my only complaint would have to be the schedules
Advice to Senior Management
Over all great, the only thing I would like them to focus on would have to be the weekly schedules
Pros
flexible work schedule if you are not considering this a job to support a family.
Cons
rude customers on the Holiday's who treat you like poop because they are spending hundreds of dollars
Advice to Senior Management
great
Pros
-It is slightly above minimum wage
-The customers are actually pretty nice most of the time
-You can make your schedule online
Cons
-Management is very poor at communicating most of the time
-You have to process at least 3 Macy's card applications for every 40 hours worked, which is unacceptable in this economy
-The training you receive is minimal
-Breaks and lunches are never at the times scheduled for you
-It is likely that you will be out of important things at the register such as paper bags, gift boxes, tissue paper, etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Management: TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES! It doesn't matter if they're seasonal hires, it is vital that employees receive adequate training. A single 6-hour point of sale training session is not nearly enough. Also, the last thing anybody wants in this economy is to take on more credit, so there should be less emphasis on selling the Macy's card. It doesn't matter how persuasive you may be, many people just don't want it, and to try to force it upon them is pointless and detrimental to the company reputation. Finally, communication between management and employees is vital. If employees don't know what's going on, then they can't do their job to the best of their ability.
Pros
Pay is better than your average retail sales job.
Cons
Horrible experiences with rude customers.
Pros
Great working environment for anyone who will enjoy retail sales.
Cons
If you are not motivted do not accept the position. Could be stressful
Pros
customers, commission, i like my schedule now, iam used to it. friendly crew i enjoy selling furniture
Cons
schedule changed at the whim of macys, retail hours, little chance for growth. stacked floor too many employees
Advice to Senior Management
we need more flexibility, less employees on commission floor less red tape to get things done
