Pros
Ability to sample new products
Fairly flexible schedule
Ability to switch shifts with other employees via register
Free samples to take home
Cons
Management does not care about the "little guys"
Management lied about commission for season employees
Seasonal employees treated poorly
Employee discount required signing up for macys credit card with awful rates
Advice to Senior Management
Remember sales start with the sales associates, and if they are miserable they won't care to make the customer happy, meaning less revenue for store
Pros
if you have a lot of time in your hands and you are willing to work for small money, this is place for you.
Cons
They paid you small money, but require work a lot.
Advice to Senior Management
They have too many bosses.
Pros
The people I work with, my customers.
Cons
total lack of respect for associates, continual press for credit. Push addition add on. store manager blames everything on associates. High turnover of staff, when hiring new staff they give new associates prime hours. Continual standing, leads to severe leg and back problems. The store manager will rant in front of staff.
Advice to Senior Management
Plant someone, in these stores and find out what is really going on , before the media does
Pros
You get to meet excellent people to work with, and the discount is not too bad at 20% for most things
Cons
Management knows about as much about the company as new employees with no training, there is zero appreciation for hard work or "going the extra mile," and all managers care about it reaching their sales and new card opening goals so that they get the extra incentives and they absolutely don't share it with the associates that got them there.
Advice to Senior Management
TREAT EMPLOYEES WITH RESPECT, NOT LIKE THEY ARE CRIMINALS!
Pros
fun employees, good discount with coupons
Cons
favoritism, very strict rules, management doesn't listen
Advice to Senior Management
take everyone seriously
Pros
Relatively easy work, after a while, customer service skills, POS transactions, etc become second nature. Employee discounts and first hand access to new items on the store.
Cons
Scorecards reflect a very limited picture of how an employee is -- it doesn't put into consideration on how much actual customer service an associate puts into the sale. Some associate lack social skills and work ethics. Very low pay and poor benefits. The worst part of it all is dealing with rude and disrespectful customers and customers who cheat their way around the system (switching tickets, harassing customers to lower down price, shoplifters, etc)
Advice to Senior Management
Look beyond the scorecard, provide better pay and health benefits, even to part time associate who are essentially the ones who really keep your store going. Management should recognize exceptional talent and provide more opportunities to grow within the company. I wonder why some associates stay on the floor for 15 years - - is it their choice or is the company not giving them the opportunity.
Pros
Hours are very flexible and employee discounts are pretty good. Macy's is always hiring, so it makes it easy as far as doing other things in life.
Cons
Management has no respect for employees, they view them as disposable. This isn't surprising because most of management shouldn't be in management.
Advice to Senior Management
Get better managers who are qualified. Much of the in-house promotions are creating horrible managers. Many of the managers were high school students who just toughed it out for a very long time at Macy's. There needs to be better treatment to employees, and then employees will perform for you. On that note, hire better employees as well. Many people who work at macy's do so because they lack marketable skills. Many are rude. High quality employees generally leave to pursue better careers because Macy's doesn't offer anything of value other than a small paycheck to get them through the week.
Pros
room for growth
commission based sales
Cons
management often focuses on the negative not positive
some top preformers use underhanded sales techniques to get a head, this is rewarded by management
long hours on your feet
Advice to Senior Management
try to build on peoples positive attributes to develop (not just the negative)
Pros
You get your paycheck at the end of every week!! Definitely love that.
Crowded on the weekend
Cons
Co-workers are quiet
Constant schedule changes
Advice to Senior Management
It was okay, they didn't really check up on you often or give you feedback.
Pros
experienced passionate employees and management
great employee discount
understanding of flexibility
Cons
Unorganized
Disconnect between corporate and store
