Pros
You get your paycheck at the end of every week!! Definitely love that.
Crowded on the weekend
Cons
Co-workers are quiet
Constant schedule changes
Advice to Senior Management
It was okay, they didn't really check up on you often or give you feedback.
Pros
experienced passionate employees and management
great employee discount
understanding of flexibility
Cons
Unorganized
Disconnect between corporate and store
Pros
Great people to work with. You will be able to meet a lot of friendly people that are not stuffy.
Cons
always pushing loyaltys (Macys credit card). It gets annoying and not want to work when the manager makes the associates push and pursuade customers to open up an account.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to stop making their associates pursuade customers to open up macy's accounts. people are not going to open a macy's account with someone pushing them to do so.
Pros
Gratis, commission, friendly coworkers.Bonuses and gifts
Cons
Forced to make people get credit cards.
Advice to Senior Management
More communication with staff
Pros
My co workers and management at this location are a very good team of employees. Once you get familiar with theenvirnment and products, it is real easy to make connections with the customers and meet the commission and other sales goals.
Cons
They push the sales of the Macy's credit cards relentlessly! If you have a bad manager you will probably not like the job much at all.
Advice to Senior Management
Make the in department training a little more thorough instead of just the MAGIC training. Especially in the shoe departments it would be nice if there were a position or two for a dedicated stockroom employee. I would love to be employed as a womens shoe stock room person and be able to constantly maintain, restock, and ticket everything to make work flow easier for everyone. As it is it can be very hard to keep track of everything and rearrange as needed when you are mainly needed on the sales floor. We have also had some stocking mix ups because of the overly rushed environment in the stock room.
Pros
Discount
Flexible Hours
Ease of Work
Early and Late Hours Available
Cons
Bad Hours
Incompetent Management
Bad Pay
Difficulty keeping hours
Advice to Senior Management
Start worrying more about how you can work for your employees, and less about how your employees are beneath you.
Pros
The camaraderie between employees is probably the best part of the job. Management (when I was there) was friendly and professional.
Cons
The pay wasn't that great. I believe it's minimum wage. Though they offer raises but it's like 50 cents higher than your current hourly.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees better! Better communication between management and employees. Don't think the worst of your employees. Offer promotions for employees that are performing well.
Pros
there are many locations, easy to transfer
Cons
management changes so fast it's impossible to keep up, one team will promise you something, the new one says "we don't honor what the previous one said" corporate demands set of standards be met, but doesn't provide the tools to do it. then makes it hard for senior staff to get out of an under-performing store. I was asked by management to help clean up a store that was a 2 hour commute away from my home, under the guise that I could transfer back when it was done.. it was done 2 years ago, and new management wants to move me farther away not closer, have refused to move me back.. then did a pay freeze.. it cost me more to get to work then I am paid now after 20 years of stellar performance with this company.. they push their best to the point of burnout, hoping someone else will step in and do it for less..
Pros
There was teamwork among associates
Cons
No opportunities to advance
Too much favoritism with management and certain associates regardless of actual job performance
No recognition for a job well done especially when it came to support/receiving staff, only if you were a sales associate that opened credit accounts
Advice to Senior Management
Each person that is an employee at your store has a strength and brings something valuable to the team, find them and everyone will benefit, and you will create a company that will last.
Pros
Fast paced work environment, especially in shoe sales. Commission + base salary is really and on big rush days you can make quite a bit.
Cons
No training whatsoever. Manager just sent me out on the floor without explaining how to find the shoes customers wanted. You take a practice course on the cash register alone in a room for 4 hours and then are expected to work the live register perfectly. Co-workers constantly tried to trick me into logging into their accounts and saying I didn't get commission for my first two weeks. Inventory is in complete disarray. There was no organization system to it. Not uncommon to not be able to find the matching shoe to the sale shoe out on the floor.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your sales associate better before sending them out on the floor. Have them shadow a corworker in their department for a couple days. Organize the stockroom.
