Pros
You make friends with the people you work with, so it becomes fun to be at work. The pay is not bad.
Cons
The pay is not great, either. I sometimes dislike getting off work at 9 or 10 p.m.
Advice to Senior Management
doing a great job
Pros
-It is slightly above minimum wage
-The customers are actually pretty nice most of the time
-You can make your schedule online
Cons
-Management is very poor at communicating most of the time
-You have to process at least 3 Macy's card applications for every 40 hours worked, which is unacceptable in this economy
-The training you receive is minimal
-Breaks and lunches are never at the times scheduled for you
-It is likely that you will be out of important things at the register such as paper bags, gift boxes, tissue paper, etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Management: TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES! It doesn't matter if they're seasonal hires, it is vital that employees receive adequate training. A single 6-hour point of sale training session is not nearly enough. Also, the last thing anybody wants in this economy is to take on more credit, so there should be less emphasis on selling the Macy's card. It doesn't matter how persuasive you may be, many people just don't want it, and to try to force it upon them is pointless and detrimental to the company reputation. Finally, communication between management and employees is vital. If employees don't know what's going on, then they can't do their job to the best of their ability.
Pros
Flexible schedule, "personal days", selling incentives, measly bus pass discount, supervision mostly from "the sky" - not from managers.
Cons
Incompetent managers, HR doesn't care about personal days needed if there is a schedule conflict, "loyalty" credit account and daily sales goals are unrealistic given the economy, wages given "based on experience" have absolutely nothing to do with experience - only whatever wage you asked for in the interview or whichever manager hired you.
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest and show people more recognition/a chance of promotion or a solidified departmental position. Manage daily tasks more and keep your sales goals reasonable - stop doing "whatever corporate asks for".
Pros
-discount
-full medical benefits
-possibility for promotions
Cons
-Incompetent and rude management
-horrible schedule
-bad pay
-constant changes that result in more negativity and inefficiency
-incompetent co workers
-no training
-lack of respect of FMLA laws and empathy by staff
-High turnover due to lack of loyalty towards staff
-managers never available
Advice to Senior Management
Get to know your staff and help them so they can help you
Pros
Discounts were nice and so were your coworkers as long as they weren't too gossipy. During the non busy hours, work was slow and there wasn't much to do besides fluff and fold clothing and standing around waiting for customers to show up. Ever since our remodel, the facilities were much nicer especially the fitting rooms which weren't so bad to clean up after now.
Cons
Time off can be a pain to request, especially if you're not chummy with management. Our HR wasn't very nice in my opinion, but the department managers were great.
Advice to Senior Management
Good job!
Pros
--Work/life balance is good
--associate discount
--hours compared to other retailers
--very energetic work environment
--lots of opportunity to learn new skills
Cons
--constant mergers/restructuring
--inconsistent communication
--lack of direction/vision
--job stability
--follow through of coporate initiatives
Advice to Senior Management
--More consistency by location
Pros
the discounts are great. It very clean and orderly and the direct management try to help you through things as best as they can.
Cons
well i work in OR, and my work schedule comes from CA so they really are not in touch with our day to day traffic and so we are always short handed on busy days and overloaed on slow days
Advice to Senior Management
look closely at the people you have in your stores for promotions before going outside
