I worked at Madison Square Garden full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great property, strong teams, heavy demand for MSG properties, New York City.

    Cons

Poor career advancement opportunity. Management always turning over - have to start from scratch. Salaries are low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees more. Clearer path for career advancement. Increase salary to market rate when promoting from within.

I worked at Madison Square Garden as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

You get to go to the games and specials events. There are some cool people in different departments, the speaker series were pretty great.

    Cons

In my department at the least wasn't very challenging, this was supposed to be a "highly competitive" internship but instead you're doing manual labor throughout the day and nothing to help you understand the way the department functions and works jointly with others. Many of us interns went to prestigious universities and were in Masters programs and majority of the time we were doing work that a sophomore in High School could complete.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really make the internship competitive and only available for departments that are actually growing not just for use as a temporary worker that you can pay minimum wage. Even Walmart employees without college educations make more than $7.25/Hour.

Also develop a rotational internship program that way we get more exposure to different departments and functions of the company, also it provides an opportunity to network.

I worked at Madison Square Garden full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

benefits are decent, neat to work with such high level sports teams

    Cons

upper level micromanagement, understanding of family time outside of work null, opinion matters very little. I was paid not even close to bare minimum for my job title, and definitely not enough to keep me there otherwise. When I asked about salary negotiations if I took on classes and was able to provide more service to my team, I was simply told "no."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees/lower level coworkers with respect. Be open to change and improvement advice. Give your employees incentive to stay, to work harder and truly want to be apart of something great.

    Pros

Incredible access to all things sports, media, and entertainment. The culture here, while serious, is friendly. It is a work environment that motivates me to do well!

    Cons

I worked at Madison Square Garden as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

My boss(s) were excellent listeners and very interested in my progress and helped me gain internal efficiency.

    Cons

Just a huge organization with complexity to get things accomplished, ( too many cooks)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire your interns and temps. They want to work there and are already trained to "hit the ground running". Keep being kind to your subordinates. It is welcomed and makes one like coming to work there. Continue demanding productivity over weekends as you appreciate it. Your accounting team is excellent there.

I worked at Madison Square Garden as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Large company, lots of learning opportunities

    Cons

Because it's such a large company, it's hard to stand out as an intern.
