I have been working at Maersk Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You'll stay motivated working here, if for no other reason than the constant threat of our industry becoming "outdated". The comp & ben package are singularly impressive. Jennifer Ivie makes sure you get the perks coming to you. When she was gone having a baby recently, you could definitely tell. Glad she's back.

    Cons

The management encourages the kind of competition which can undermine team cohesion and plant divisiveness.

    Advice to Management

We're human, too. We have lives and families and the same college degrees you have. Don't treat us like machines.

    Pros

They pay for your education and you only have to pay it back if you quit or are fired. They have 401k after one year and full medical benefits immediately.

    Cons

Work is not difficult; however, it is physically demanding and hours are unreliable. Expect to work 12-14hr days on your feet non-stop on a hard warehouse floor. Also, you'll be in business casual attire and sometimes be expected to handle material.

    Advice to Management

All supervisors should wear appropriate clothing for the warehouse. Khaki pants and polos at the very least. Jeans and tennis shoes would be desirable and optimal for this work though. Especially during the extreme weather months. Bottom line is: business casual is not appropriate for the warehouse, even if the supervisor goes into the office at times throughout the day, the majority of their day is in the warehouse.

  8. Specialist

    Pros

Charlotte office has good facilities including a gym and a full time fitness manager. Maersk has a lot of great people working for them but it seems most go unappreciated. The company is huge on green belt training for selected.

    Cons

Very little opportunity for people that are not hand selected for promotion. While the company is proactive in greenbelt training, the opportunity for this particular training is not offered to employees equally. As with all companies, lots of politics.

    Advice to Management

Widen eyes for all team members' capabilities and aptitude instead of promoting same persons repeatedly giving them more exposure, visibility and learning opportunities.

    Pros

Market rate compensation, diversity in the work force, and lots of opportunities to work internationally. Friendly for foreign nationals

    Cons

The culture is a bit intense with lots of competition from peers. Also the company has strict corporate hierarchy, and there is obvious power distance btw employees and managers
