Pros
Competitive Compensation and benefits package
Cons
The political climate inside the big organization is to strong. You need to be identified to a top level management to stay on the top.
Pros
Internet onboard, regular runs, reasonable wages & usually paid on time! training to a certain extent.
Cons
Food is bad onboard, welfare or crews life / happiness is not a priority, zero social life onboard, fatigue is a common occurence and no one cares, work load is increasing with very rarely getting praise, a system where certain nationalities are treated differently than other nationalities, reliefs not on time, standard of people onboard decreasing, the company is too big and the office is untouchable
Advice to Senior Management
The office needs to treat people working at sea the same they would like to be treated. It is a hard enough job to go to sea for a few months at a time, leaving loved ones at home but to be in a job where your work goes Un- acknowledged frequently. There is no one to turn to if there is any bullying issues.
Pros
High European values on work/life balance and quality work.
Cons
Clash of company values versus local values
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the transparency
Pros
Open culture, congenial environment, an employer that respects personal time off, focus on efficiency rather than long hours.
Cons
The company is run out of the headquarters, and there are limited advancement opportunities outside the HQ. In order to advance, one has to spend considerable time in headquarters in Denmark, of which the country's tax regime (50-60% on income) which supports their generous welfare system can be prohibitive for a foreigner.
Pros
They really develop their people and overall everyone they have at Maersk is wonderful. They do a lot of hiring decisions, especially for the MISE program which i was a part of, based on personality and because of that i feel like everyone was very driven and wonderful to work with.
Cons
The industry is ROUGH. Shipping rates were so low it was next to impossible to make any money and you are competing against state owned companies-not easy.
Pros
The Maersk Drilling section is booming right now, especially with the planned purchase of numerous drill ships and contracted work.
Cons
I do not know of many real cons with the company, but the staff has members from many different nationalities, which some may be unfamiliar with (accents, humor, behavior, etc).
Advice to Senior Management
The only advice I could provide would be to possibly push more interest in education versus experience, such as offering internship opportunities.
Pros
Very capable colleagues, good mid-level managers, worldwide presence makes it easy to change positions within the company, good work-life balance.
Cons
No initial training (figure-it-out-yourself culture), don't quite see what they "next step" is in my career progression, still a rather male-dominated company (difficulty finding female role models).
Advice to Senior Management
Invest a bit more in job-specific training.
Pros
All your colleagues are ambitious and hard-working
As a young employee can learn a lot from other colleagues, and they are willing to share
Cons
Very tedious work where days can be long and you do the same task over and over again. You should perform every day you are there.
Advice to Senior Management
I am not quite sure what can be changed. Maersk is a really good place to work where one can go around the world, but one also has to be patient and work diligently with routine tasks
Pros
-Immense scope to learn things
-Excellent attendance structure
-Nuetral Cafeteria facilities
-Good at providing opportunities
-Nice co workers and colleagues
Cons
-stupid management
-lack of planning
-shrugging responsibilities
-everyone talks of ethics but none follows them
-stupid salaries
-food sucks at the cafeteria
Advice to Senior Management
the work force you got is from one of the best backgrounds. Please maintain proper employee engagement to be respected.
Pros
Maersk has great opportunities in the corporate world and you can advance in other positions throughout the company.
Cons
Creating jobs without acknowledgement to all employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Be professional in all aspects!
