    I had a good experience at Magee due to the friendly work environment.

    ProsThere is a very friendly environment at Magee. People from doctors to the president of the hospital as well as nurses to parking attendants greet you with a smile everyday.

    ConsMany positions are very underpaid. Monopolistic pay wages within city controlled by UPMC owned facilities. Little room for advancement. The strict budget of the departments make it difficult to pay more but people end up working more. They have eliminated jobs and closed centers due to a decrease in patient volume which constantly fluctuates. Especially with the battle between highmark and UPMC.

    Advice to Senior ManagementFight for better raises. It's hard because of strict departmental budgets.

    Good Experience for Internship

    ProsDid exciting work as most data was fresh from the hospital. Got good career opportunities after. Great people, friendly and very talented.

    ConsCompensation wasn't as high as I expected. But they have funds to pay their employees. They are kind of stingy about paying high.

    ProsIt's at the outer fringe of Oakland.

    ConsThe core staff in the units are rude and disrespectful to all new hires, regardless of where they come from, and voice these concerns to staff, doctors, and the new hires. Senior core staff surf the internet on night shift rather than take assignments, and "punish" people with 2 -3 room assignments if they don't like them, or the staff is late to show for their shift due to a family emergency. Exposure incidents are not permitted to be filed, against the policy. Where else would you hear that, as long as your skin is free of lacerations, all you need to do is wash off bloodborne pathogens with no time restrictions...and I am talking 40 minutes or more from contact!!!!

    Advice to Senior ManagementYou won't retain new staff while you let the senior core staff play games. Open your ears and listen -- and be aware that retaliation is rampant.
