I have been working at Magellan Navigation full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The work pace at Magellan is very fast and cutting edge. It's awesome to work for a company that may launch the next "must-have" consumer electronic device.

    Cons

The "Magellan" brand name was sold twice during my tenure with the company. As such, there was significant turnover and management changes and challenges.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs to empower employees and learn to hold them accountable for results. Otherwise, the top/down management will continue to impair the company's ability to grow.

I have been working at Magellan Navigation full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Close to Costco & the airport. The work is interesting and challenging. Most of the Non-managerial employees are nice, good people.

    Cons

Stressful and chaotic for no real reason but lack of organization. Unreasonable demands and expectations.

2007 market the high point for the company and the industry. Product now is about as relevant as buggy whips.

I worked at Magellan Navigation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some very bright and capable people working in parts of the organization, though between layoffs and people opting out, very few of the talented folks remain.

    Cons

Terribly disfunctional senior management. Neither Silver Lake or MiTAC demonstrated much in running the company from an operational standpoint. Industry has been in a nosedive since 2008, with average unit selling price dropping like a rock. Just a whole lot of ugly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At your next organization, either come with a better plan, or be willing to listen.

My tenor at Magellan was rewarding and challenging as it was a company in constant flux.

    I worked at Magellan Navigation

    Pros

Magellan offered International exposure with opportunities to present financials in US GAAP, French GAAP, and IFRS format. Teamwork. Location. Evolving technology.

    Cons

Part of the appeal of Magellan was its constant state of change, which also was its downside. However, good people made this challenge also rewarding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strive for approachability. Many managers tended to stay in their own domain instead of promoting cross-organizational exchange of ideas and teamwork.
