    Pros

surrounded by smart people, solving classic hard CS problems, most of them NP-complete, so smart heuristics are invented to solve them. a lot of non-trivial ( i.e. not just a button somewhere ) inventions are made by the company.

    Cons

very small market that are squeezed by both sides: foundry and semiconductor companies, hence very little growth in terms of business, and translated to little personal growth, even worse is that many Ph.Ds stayed there for long long years, so you need to wait them out to be promoted.

    Advice to Management

be brave, try to take the pie from the semiconductor companies, even though they are your customers.

relative small, people are close and work as a team
issue, information, communication can easier be heard and considered by the managerment

    Cons

sales people are compliant to the customers, would accept all the requests
issues sometime not be prioritized very well, work like fire fighters to the critical issue or to the major accounts

Management was terrible. Leaders are short term focused and company strategy wasnt well thought out

    Advice to Management

Management was terrible. Leaders are short term focused and company strategy wasnt well thought out. Management was too technical and didn't have much of a business understanding.

  8. with immature and inexperienced folks at top level across R&D/AE, be prepared for no career growth ...

    Pros

It has very good technology and probably is the only EDA company where you will have opp to learn entire flow from RTL-GDSII and become an expert. Lot of oppurtunities to learn and excel at new technologies

    Cons

Worst work-life balance with avg pay. Mgmt forgets that you have life and 70hrs workweek is very common ...with immature mgmt and inexperienced folks sitting at top levels , decision making is very skewed and talented employees are rewarded very well. Very artificial praises is the best you can get from mgmt ..with top brass so political and often trying to save their jobs, your credit is taken as theirs...

    Advice to Management

with just 600 ppl, please try to encourage non-political free culture and reward your employees well especially support staff...they substitute your tools instability and features...promote only ppl who have experience and maturity ... also if a product is not catching up, please change the R&D architects and you need fresh eyes...

    Pros

As an Engineer, Magma is a good place to work. Adequate challenges and it's a complex piece of software. Lots of scope to become a good coder.

    Cons

EDA as such is not booming. So, don't expect too much growth. Fourth in the field, so there's constant pressure to perform.

  11. Hectic work, company small enough that you can make a difference, NO respect for employees

    Disapproves of CEO
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    - It's small enough you can make a difference
    - good career growth if you can fight you way up (small company but lots of politics)
    - good pay (but bonus is pretty much not funded)
    - aggressive CEO is a plus (but also a minus...)

    Cons

    - Magma used to have an edge, now lost with the top engineers gone
    - lots of work, long hours, changing target every quarter
    - If you are an engineer in the US, chance is that you will be eventually outsourced to India.
    - the CEO, Rajeev Madhavan, runs the company like it belongs to him. He made a lots of strategic mistake, acquiring companies w/o any business outlook, disregarding feedback from tech-savvy people, wasting a few $100M's that would have been better invested in Magma's R&D. His authority is not balanced by the board that he has in his pocket. Rajeev is a crook keeping the company afloat thanks to his "charm".
    - the senior exec level's main job is to deflect issues onto their subordinates so that they can keep their well-paid jobs
    - lots of layoffs, threatening environment, no ethical culture, employees treated like meat, therefore there is zero loyalty to the company

    Advice to Management

    - replace senior execs!
    - respect employees
    - discounting tools will only slow down Magma's death, and hurts EDA as a whole. Innovate!
    - Magms's bread-and-butter is still P&R, move the whole thing in India to cut cost
    - invest in high-flying engineer talents in US and India to design innovative tools and solutions
