    I worked at Magna International

    Pros

They do a lot for their employees that many companies can't afford to do anymore: Turkey/Ham during the holidays, bowling parties, etc.

    Cons

A true manufacturing environment. Can be quite stressful at times. Leadership can be intimidating first, but great once you get to know them and prove yourself.

    Pros

*Able to listen to music through earbuds while on the job (helps time pass)
*Three, fifteen minute breaks per shift
    *Lots of opportunity for overtime

    Cons

*Only available shift seemed to be third
*Extremely boring and mind numbing with out music or podcasts to listen too

    Advice to Management

Continue to allow employees to listen to music, it helps maintain a positive mood and motivation throughout the shift.

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities to move up, CEO is great, each plant runs on their own.

    Cons

If you are in a plant with poor upper management you will have issues. The actual company as a whole entity is great but certain locations aren't.

    Advice to Management

Stay out of personal lives. Understand your HR laws.

    Pros

Engineering department was dynamic with a "very" capable Manager.

    Cons

No place for anybody not ready to give 150% continually. It is a Non-Stop environment with a well exercized "revolving door".

    Advice to Management

Management, H. R. to be precise, please examine reasoning for large turnover. Maybe less p. c., and more truth about the work environments and etc.. When available demographic can't be satisfied, you will not retain them.

    Pros

Would take your knowledge into consideration.

    Cons

The company was closing the plant and were not friendly. I have friends that did relocate to other plants and have had great experiences.

    Pros

    Great Benefits, Vacation and 401(k)

    Cons

Just about everything else, disjointed in so many places

I worked at Magna International full-time

    Pros

The company provided good pay and benefits in a relatively stable work environment. Planning at the corporate office is done very well. They manage to maintain a somewhat entrepreneurial atmosphere even though they are a large company.

    Cons

The various divisions do not work well together. Members of upper-middle management (i.e. directors and their peers) are mediocre at best.

    Advice to Management

The transition from Magna E-Car to Magna Electronics was painful. Learn from the experience. Also, I believe you would have a better ability to retain engineering staff if you were to establish a career path within engineering (i.e. don't require transition to program management or group management in order to advance).

    Pros

Overall Magna is a good employer. The work is demanding but most jobs seem to be self directed in nature.

    Cons

Based on the decentralized culture the systems and business consistency is not very good. Everything is a cost center so sometimes it is difficult to get thinks done.

    Advice to Management

Continue recent efforts to establish global standards. This will definitely help work get done in a more efficient manner.

    Pros

Compensation if you can put up with the abuse.

    Cons

VP and Director are two faced and abusive. One of the worst places I have ever work and would not recommend to my worst enemy.

    Advice to Management

Find a job digging ditches, you lisping fool, as you have no leadership ability.
