Unique Company

Management (Current Employee)
Detroit, MI

I have been working at Magna International full-time for more than 7 years

ProsDecentralized structure provides ability for quick problem solving and eliminates the corporate vs plant mentality

ConsThis decentralization can allow for some less than desirable GM's and Assistant General Managers to abuse their power if they are politically connected and ther profits are meeting target. Abuse of employees can go unchecked for a long period of time before the 18 months between employee opinion surveys.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook beyond the balance sheets and get your senir executives into the plants more, make the HR department Independant of the General Manager to improve oversight. Career oportunities are limited due to the isolation at the plant level created by the extreemely decentralized structure and GM's hiding their talent.

ProsThis organizational structure allows for you to create your own path if you are entrepreneurial enough. Self starters can excell if will is there to succeed.

ConsDecentralized business can make cooperation between units very challenging.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave a better system for identifying high achieving employees and mentor them rather than loose them.

Diversity of projects, lack of direction

Manager (Former Employee)
Detroit, MI

I worked at Magna International full-time for more than 7 years

ProsLots of different programs to work on, with various customers

ConsNo clear vision of division strategy, uninspiring and seemingly uninformed senior management at times led to poor morale in division.

Magna International

Production Worker (Current Employee)
Highland Park, MI

I have been working at Magna International full-time for less than a year

ProsWorking for Magna provides some the best opportunities for employees to advance to a higher level if desired. They care about their employees potential for growth and they encourage you to seek the education and training to better quailfy for new position within the company." It's a great place to work".

ConsThe only downside to working for Magna is if the auto manufacturers begin cutting jobs and and closing plants because of declining auto sales. This would be some concern only because Magna is a supplier to most of these companies that manufacture cars.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you are doing, you have a solid grip on the world market and continue to perform exceedingly well. The management team knows exactly where this company is headed, and will stay firmly ahead of problems that may its way.

Tough place to work

Quality Engineer (Former Employee)
Syracuse, NY

I worked at Magna International full-time for more than 8 years

ProsPay was comparable 24/7 to get it . Very many good people that you work with.

Cons24/7 on call no family life with work life balance . Managers are clueless and manage with fear.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemember we are people and need to have down time in order to function.

Could be better

Assembly (Current Employee)
Nashville, IL

I have been working at Magna International

ProsWages and Benefits are very good compared to other companies in our area.

ConsI do not understand why it is everyone from the CEO down to local plant management gets such HUGE bonuses when it is actually the people(to use managemants words) on the shop floor that makes sure we put out a quality part that we are proud to put our name on.
I am not saying I am not thankful for what Magna has done for myself and other employees, but what I am saying is why do you feel you are of more importance than I and my fellow workers are.
We need each other. YOU are no more important than I am. Salaries for these people are not a problem for I know they earn it. I guess we do not earn what we get. Let me ask one thing, what would you do if you did not have us? Also how many people could be put to work if you did not take such HUGE bonuses. Just SAYIN.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a look at you are worth to MAGNA. NOW how much do you think the hourly associate is worth?
How would you get your product out IF you had no associates? I guess it would be like what I have heard in some of the meetings I have set in on, which is I WILL DO IT then you go out and get the SHOP FLOOR employees to do it but you say you are the one doing it.
