I worked at Magna International full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

None. Magna took over New Process Gear from Chrysler for the sole purpose of closing us and moving the business to Mexico. All employees including management were treated horribly.

    Cons

Treated like animals. Cutting costs was the only important thing. People were constantly being fired just to reduce the workforce before the plant closing.

I have been working at Magna International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Pay and benefits are nice.

    Cons

The management at the facility I work for are terrible. Way to many chiefs and not enough indians. The facility also hemorrhages line workers do in part of the terrible HR management and union. They abuse salary personnel and offer little to no room for growth. Offer no real compensation and do not recognize talent. None of the management actually understand what manage means and usually end up pawning their responsibilities off on lesser individuals who have had no experience then get angry when something goes wrong, yet accepts all praise when someone else does their job and gets it right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be mindful of employees with new ideas especially those who have had former automotive experience. Start recognizing where your dead weight is and turn it loose before it drags the whole facility down.

I have been working at Magna International full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decentralized structure provides ability for quick problem solving and eliminates the corporate vs plant mentality

    Cons

This decentralization can allow for some less than desirable GM's and Assistant General Managers to abuse their power if they are politically connected and ther profits are meeting target. Abuse of employees can go unchecked for a long period of time before the 18 months between employee opinion surveys.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look beyond the balance sheets and get your senir executives into the plants more, make the HR department Independant of the General Manager to improve oversight. Career oportunities are limited due to the isolation at the plant level created by the extreemely decentralized structure and GM's hiding their talent.
