I worked at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

M&M is known for its culture and provides excellent learning opportunities to grow. The freedom in decision making is something every individual working in the organisation cherish for. Mahindra uses its Respect, Regard & Recognition policy to rightly identify key performers and provides them with ample opportunities for growth. Truly a great place to work and even after 2 years of leaving the organisation, the impact it has created in my professional career is immense.

    Cons

Mahindra is also know for its aggressive nature and sometimes in the process of achieving the end result, it always ends up in pressurising the entire system from Top management to field operational employees. Only the fittest can survive and definitely not a place for 'free riders'

    Advice to Management

Can focus more on delivering quality products and first time right services and solutions to customers.

I worked at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of new projects and learning opportunities. You can work on anything that you love working on. The culture is more leaned towards learning and implementation. The work culture is of a typical start up

    Cons

Like any large company, politics is the way of life here. People tend to move towards boot licking quite quickly. The appraisal system is not the best and a lot of power rests on the hands of managers. Not many people in the middle management are role models per se, but the senior management is among the best

    Advice to Management

Talent management is not on par with the industry standards, eliminate politics in middle management through a stringent process. Lot of talented youngsters leave because of this.

    Pros

At Mahindra & Mahindra there are Robust processes, it's a great brand, has huge rural network, capability to handle large projects.

    Cons

Lacks focus towards Capability building in all the divisions which results into weaker talent management. Can't leverage the huge potential rural market due to lack of innovation and breakthrough strategic foresight

    Advice to Management

A clear career plan for employees at all levels. Greater involvement of innovation cells

I have been working at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to learn a lot here, I have been working at the R&D centre of Mahindra in Chennai for 3 years now and I believe that I have been learning at a great pace everyday. Not all other OEMs do everything in-house, Mahindra does the most by itself, so it gives a lot to your learning curve.

    Cons

Work here is people oriented and not much work is followed by process, at times this creates much problem. HR policies are all skewed up, it's all show and no output basically. As an original equipment manufacturer, M&M provides you the least in terms of salary among others. Being an Indian company you will of course find people here praising you if you work for long hours, no work-life balance basically. Technical know how of the present workforce is pretty low. (This may be a pros for someone looking to work here, but believe me, with time this becomes irritating to deal with.)

    Advice to Management

You are building up a company with many tag-lines to bet for, but merely this is being put into practice. New recruitment should be done based on merit, but I see you are trying to get more(actually only) locals in a place like Chennai. This may work out to save attrition, but will degrade the quality much further as people are still moving out of chennai (Mahindra's R&D hub). One day you might end up with a stable workforce but it will lack the quality and diversity which is required.
