I worked at Maines full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You home several times a week. Get paid every other week. Management talks to everyone, health insurance is halfway descent, very flexible with schedule.

    Cons

Pay could be better, no bonuses, no 9 days holiday pay how they advertise. All the other divisions pay better.

    Advice to Management

Do a little better at routing, and you wouldn't have such a turn over rate.

I have been working at Maines (More than a year)

    Pros

Only pro was leaving the building the last time.

    Cons

No educated management structure.GM got his job because no one else was available. Sub par staff throughout the organization and the corporate office is ok with that..they come cheap. Dwindling customer base and horrible product quality..what else id there too say?

    Advice to Management

Start over in Worcester...cumulatively, you don't have one good, strong piece of management in there.

    I worked at Maines full-time

    Pros

It WAS decent pay, if you were lucky enough to get good runs. 4 day work weeks.

    Cons

Constant truck break downs. Consistantly getting trashed trailers. Customers were either decent or very rude and dont take care of their restaurants. They cut the pay and then assume youd do more work. Scanners never worked. Common to run out of hours, and you screwed yourself if you volunteered to do a short day run which they slashed the pay on. Plan on getting hurt

    Advice to Management

Make contacting you easier, revert back to old pay scale, make hiring easier, dont expect things that cant be done.

    Pros

Not really alot. I am struggling to come up with anything. Benefits are decent. Still family owned. For a company as large as it is everyone is very accessible.

    Cons

As other reviewers have said, Maines does not care about your home life one bit. The supervisor level position is bottom of the barrel and you will be expected to work 50 to 60 hours a week and perform managerial functions for supervisor pay. Within the past couple years they even took bonuses away from supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Do not give so much autonomy to your managers and try to treat your supervisors with respect and as valued members of the team.

I have been working at Maines full-time

    Pros

Component pay allows you to control your own salary. Plenty of advancement opportunities . Random perks (cook outs, gift cards, Mvp/exemplar awards yield vacation days). Management is semi-flexible with scheduling

    Cons

overtime (which can be a pro for some, but it gets old) - 50 + hours a week is normal Physically demanding Weekends are work days and holidays are mandatory/blacked out for vacations. Pay is somewhat reliable on other employees

    Advice to Management

Could be a good job if staffing was under control. constantly snowballs. Long hours from being understaffed slow people down which makes days even longer, which causes people to quit - repeat

I worked at Maines full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are decent, a place to start a career, some good people.

    Cons

As a young person starting my career, I jumped at the opportunity to join the company. Negotiate before accepting the offer, because that is the only time you can. I moved right up through the company in the 3+ years I worked for Maines. I did work for, and with, some amazing people. Unfortunately, the leaders of the company simply do not care about their employees. Sure, they say they do and say things that check off all your "things I want to hear from my employer" boxes. In reality, they are selfish, stubborn and the first people in the company to turn their backs on you. I saw the cycle too many times while at Maines - Leadership offering their talented employees the moon and stars, just to fall flat on their promises while still expecting more from you. As long as the two brothers own this, and with the current CEO, this company will never be a long-term place to work.

    Advice to Management

Really, truly think about how you treat your employees - they are the ONLY reason you have a job. If you are lucky enough to have a smart, creative, hard-working employee; treat them like gold!

    I worked at Maines full-time

    Pros

Somewhat flexible hours, Vision & Dental coverage is decent, Profit sharing, 401k matching, 2 weeks vacation after one year of employment, promote within.

    Cons

Poor management & leadership skills are lacking. A culture all of its own, ruled with an iron fist and fear. Owners use employees as their own personal puppets. Would rather spend money on third-party managed services than take the time to properly train and improve the people they have. An overworked & under appreciated IT department with little direction. This company doesn't focus enough within, only with getting the next big customer and working everyone to the bone to make their next billion dollars.

    Advice to Management

Realize that every department is part of the big picture, not just the ones that help bring in the money. If it wasn't for IT the company wouldn't have the systems that the rest of the company uses to place orders, support customers, get invoices to the warehouse to pull product, show proof of delivery at customer locations, or even collect employee time for payroll. Focus on your infrastructure more, the moral of your people matters a lot. Your company is weakening from within and if not corrected will cost you in the long run. You should run an episode of Undercover Boss here. The things you would learn about your company would make for a very interesting episode.
