realize things in the USA are different than Japan

Best product in the field and it is very respected. Always coming out with new products and technology. Provide a company vehicle and good expense account to work with.

Where to begin? Horrible leadership from a sales standpoint. The VP sales only cares about Home Depot and doesn't care about the industrial side (the side that made Makita). The VP of the East Coast in charge of sales has ZERO years of sales experience in his career, so you figure out how that works! The pay is horrible and the commission plan is by far the worst of any field, organization, or company in the US. The base salary of a sales rep is anywhere between $15,000 and $20,000 less than the competition. No chance of at bonuses and you would actually have to get your entire district (other sales reps in your area) to hit all of their numbers to fully hit all bonuses!
Sad that such a great product is run by uneducated people and have no clue how the US market works or how to attack it.
Advice to Senior Management
You need fresh blood and people who actually understand how business and sells works!
