    Pros

The food, the people and the intellectual atmosphere combine to make this an excellent place to work. There is always help or the opportunity to help and learn.

    Cons

Sometimes it's easy to spread ones self very thin and while possible, deep technically diving isn't always a possibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Mandiant has a wealth of technical projects and is a great place for people who like owning up to big tasks. The work is as personally fulfilling as it is immediately valuable to the businenss, which can be a rare treat in some organizations.

    Cons

Fast pace and long hours - only if it's not your thing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is solid. Unified vision, friendly, sharp and motivating.

I have been working at Mandiant full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Free catered lunches
    Great employee benefits and compensation
Only company doing what they do as well as they do it/cutting edge of InfoSec industry.

    Cons

Management is ignorant to employee needs
Company of 300 employees acts and treats its employees as if they are a company of hundreds of thousands of employees
Management makes you work ridiculous amounts of overtime to get your job done so you never get to spend time with your families leading to divorce (not me but many of my co-workers) or no real life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employees needs and treat each employee as THEY need to be treated. Stop treating your employees as if they are all the same robot.

Lots of potential, but still a small company.

I have been working at Mandiant

    Pros

The company is developing technology that tackles the incident response market, which is a relatively young market from a product perspective. Revenue potential is huge, especially with the fact that the company is staffed by a experienced and professional consulting organization, whose experiences are extremely valuable when it comes to software development.

    Cons

As with any small business, resources are always an issue. In this case, resources entails engineers, development/QA hardware and software.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bite the bullet and spend more money on expanding the engineering and marketing organizations.

    I worked at Mandiant

    Pros

Top talent in the IR space. Without a doubt. REALLY smart people trying to solve really hard problems. Great place to get started in incident response but burn out is all but guaranteed at the current pace management is taking on customers for revenue, especially within the managed services.

    Cons

Chaotic organizational changes at the moment, hopefully that changes eventually. Organizational transparency used to be the norm at Mandiant - no longer as a part of FireEye. Severe mistrust of senior management by rank-and-file analysts. Very long hours, but that is to be expected anywhere in this space.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All good things come to an end - and Mandiant (“a FireEye Company”) unfortunately is no exception. At Mandiant you were a name; at FireEye you are but a number. While employees from “Professional Services” still fall under the Mandiant brand, the majority of Mandiant employees have stripped of that association and have been assimilated into FireEye. The net result has been organizational growing pains at best, management-inflicted chaos at worst. Revenue targets are now ahead of the original mission: finding evil. The company is biting off more than it can chew and hemorrhaging technical employees due to workload and management disconnection from the "reality on the ground". A business is a business but the current situation has resulted in senior management being removed from and neglecting their most treasured asset - long-term employees. Lip service is the norm now. Management smiles and assurances are now followed by office closures and layoffs fostering an environment of distrust. Critically important legacy employees have departed or have plans to depart soon. It’s a shame as the combination of the companies was supposed to be a cyber security match-made-in-heaven. Unfortunately the original culture and reasons why Mandiant rocked as an employer have all but disappeared.
