Poor Communication and Inconsistent Direction

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Manhattan Construction

ProsThere are great, hardworking coworkers.

ConsEmployee recommendations for improvements are usually received well, but not implemented.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore effort should be given towards taking care of employees instead of primarily focusing on the Owners.

Poor on communication and technology, very qualified builders.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Manhattan Construction full-time for more than 5 years

Pros"Family" feel within divisions
Very capable builders in a variety of market segments

ConsPoor training opportunities for younger employees
Communication is a consistent issue
Technologically behind competitors
Shake ups within upper management, creating a general feeling of unease

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your employees, both in training and compensation, and do what you say you will. Coming by one day to say how great things are getting only serves to calm people, creating a harsh blow when you're having large layoffs not long after.

One of the Best Construction Companies, Period.

Senior Project Engineer (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at Manhattan Construction full-time for less than a year

ProsAmple Training,
Great People (Dallas Office),
Best Sports Arena/Facilities Group,
One-of-a-kind Project Opportunities,
Surrounded by Top Talent in Industry

ConsTough to Advance,
Like many other Construction Companies, Project Teams operate on-site, independent of Main Office, makes connecting with Senior Mgmt difficult to impossible. Perfect breeding grounds for rumors and Office Gossip.
Hard Bid Contracts (Negotiated jobs always smoother, IMHO, though I understand those aren't around all the time)
Can be tough to manage work/life balance (comes with the career)

Advice to Senior ManagementNot much... This group knows what they are doing and they do it well. Gas card and company cell phone would've made the deal even sweeter =)

Company lacks vision, has poor management, and is going nowhere fast.

Senior Level (Former Employee)
Washington, DC

I worked at Manhattan Construction full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThe pay is good for what is expected of you.

ConsThe only way to advance is to become a sycophant, endure years of backward thinking by the management, and outlast the other employees. There plenty of other poorly run companies to choose from. Unless someone really needs a job, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Keep on your toes

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Tampa, FL

I worked at Manhattan Construction

ProsManhattan pays near the higher side of the industry, and most of the people working for the company are friendly and easy going.

ConsThere is a culture of finger pointing that is created by upper management. On numerous occasions I have seen upper management make poor decisions, and then blame them on the employee who was directed to carry them out. Multiple employees have been let go in this manner.

Advice to Senior ManagementPart of being a leader is building the confidence and trust of your employees. If you don't have this, you'll never have anything. Holster the finger and lead with integrity.
