MannKind provided many opportunities to utilize the skills and competencies that I have acquired throughout my career.

ProsThere are many talented, dedicated people working there. Relationships among coworkers are strong. Compensation and benefits are above many similar companies. The lead product is very innovative and will provide a tremendous positive benefit to many people.

ConsThere are areas of poor leadership and the atmosphere is at times very stressful. As the future of the company is not known, morale is low among most of the staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be beneficial to have more frequent interactions with all of the staff and to discuss the future possibilities at the company more openly.

    Being on a roller-coaster

    Clinical Operations (Former Employee)
    Paramus, NJ

ProsThe Company has some very hard working dedicated people trying to get a job done, that are willing to go the extra mile and help out where they con.

ConsDysfunctional, turf wars, ego driven senior management. No communication from Sr Management with clear direction. HR department that is useless.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the people that are actually doing the job – and not the “yes” people.

    OK company to work for.

    Program Manager (Former Employee)
    Danbury, CT

ProsDedicated people on the ground floor.

ConsUpper management politics could be a real time-waster and counterproductive to the mission of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementSr. Management - seek out the opinions of employees on the ground floor on a continuous basis. They often have good insight on the operational realities mid-level Directors may shield from you.

    struggling startup

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere is opportunity for a starting engineer to wear many hats within a startup company but until the uncertainty of the company is resolved it’s a rocky place to work. Since it’s such a small company any employee can make an impact in one shape or another.

ConsCompany has had many layoffs for such a small company. Senior management to employee ratio is much too high resulting in power struggles within departments and competing goals that results in micromanagement from the executive level.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet off your high horse and put on your working boots to look at really what is going on in the front lines. Stop setting the bar too high for the company and make smart decisions that make good business sense.

    pressure cooker

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe compensation package was thorough and competitive. When they did have to lay off employees, I think they were generous with their severance packages. There were opportunities to wear many hats and try a lot of different roles, as long as your work didn't suffer for it. There were some truly kind, knowledgeable and hardworking people there who were willing to help you learn different disciplines within the company.

ConsIt was a total pressure cooker, and a lot of favoritism, which inevitably led infighting between the different departments. They were thick with middle management, and it led to some managers losing touch with what their employees actually accomplished on a daily basis. The gap between management and mid- to lower-level employees was rather large, and the way management was compensated comparatively was off-putting.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward your employees based on their actual performance, and not on management cronyism. narrow the gap between the different work levels and encourage your different departments and teams to truly work together instead of against one another. Invest in the social areas of your workforce, and bring back things like the summer barbecues--they were good for morale of the company.

Tragic, a potentially remarkable and game changing product in Afrezza, but ignorance and arrogance has tanked us.

    Information Technologies (Current Employee)
    Danbury, CT

ProsGreat ground level personnel, and a truly facinating potential product. Good life work balance and pay is about market.

ConsArrogant and ignorant Senior Management. The culture is also very "blame centric". In order for you to do well, someone has to do something bad. Very CYA attitudes and much backstabbing. Extreme paranoid silo mentality as well.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the Product application team that has failed twice now to gain approval for afrezza. Their arrogance and ignorance of the FDA has cost MNKD millions of dollars, years of market and the loss of literally hundreds of mostly excellent employees.
