Former Employee - Store Manager in Vancouver, BC (Canada)

    I worked at Mantique

    Pros

great clothes and has good clothing discount like 50% and family also get the discount.

Some fun people to work with.
    a local company.

    Cons

very pushy selling process - it is basically never leave the customer alone. This often makes customers very uncomfortable,
the quality of clothes is not always great and pricing is expensive
No growth for managers or associate and not great working conditions for staff

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

should look for more external marketing strategies rather than get pushing the customer.

    Definitely not for everyone

    I worked at Mantique

    Pros

    Above minimum wages
    Employee discounts after 3 months

    Cons

Very pushy sales, you are required to pounce on every customer who walks through the door
Customers become uncomfortable with the very evident use of sales tactics
Management is very unprofessional and condescending
You are not paid for training until you complete three months 'probation' in which they can let you go without any notice so if the position is too much for you ( like it was for me ) you will not be paid
even if you work 30 hours
Unrealistic sales goals, you are expected to sell 500 dollars worth of clothes to customers, so if someone comes in looking for something specific, be ready to try and convince them to buy things that are completely irrelevant to what they were originally asking for

This position is not for everyone, if you aren't comfortable following your customer around the shop the entire time they are in the store, bringing them 5+ outfits when they have asked for a certain style of shirt, being patronized by management constantly, and not being paid for all of the work you do, head on over to mantique! They are always hiring, because employee turnover is ridiculous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead by example, don't ask employees to be constantly moving around the store, while you stand behind the counter filing your nails and bad mouthing senior management and former employees.
Leave your personal life at home and try to maintain a more professional appearance while customers are visiting your location even if they are friends. Provide a manual for trainees or have some sort of reference to aid in your ridiculous sales expectations.
